From confusion to clarity: myGovID app gets a fresh new identity soon!

Navigating the digital landscape can be a bit of a maze, especially when it comes to keeping track of all the different government services and apps.

However, there's good news on the horizon for those of us who have been scratching our heads trying to differentiate between myGovID and the myGov services portal.

In a move that's set to simplify our digital experience, the Australian government has announced a significant change.

The Australian government’s digital ID app, myGovID, will be rebranded as ‘myID’ starting in mid-November.

This change is more than just a fresh coat of paint. It's a strategic decision aimed at eliminating the confusion that has surrounded these two separate entities.

For many, especially those who didn't grow up with a smartphone in hand, distinguishing between similarly named services can be unnecessarily complicated.

The upcoming rebranding to myID is a welcome step towards making digital government services more user-friendly and accessible.

The transition to myID will be seamless, delivered as an app update through the App Store or Google Play.

‘When myGovID changes to myID, users won’t need to do anything differently,’ the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) stated.

‘Existing users will not need to set up a new myID.’

‘Login details and the user’s identity strength level set up in myGovID will stay the same and users can continue to use the app in the same way to securely access participating government online services,’ they added.

The decision to rebrand was one of the recommendations from the Critical National Infrastructure myGov User Audit report released in January 2023.

The myGovID app, which will soon be known as myID, enables users to verify their identity online without repeatedly sharing personal documents like passports, birth certificates, and driver’s licences.

Login details and identity strength levels established in myGovID will remain intact, and the app's functionality will continue as usual, allowing secure access to over 150 government online services.

As we anticipate the new look and name, the ATO has also issued a warning to be vigilant against impersonation scams.

‘Scammers can make fake websites or apps that look just like myGovID or myID,’ the ATO cautioned.

‘Only download the myGovID (soon myID) app from the official app stores (Google Play and the App Store).’

‘Don’t click on suspicious links, open attachments or download any files from suspicious emails or SMS; we will never send an unsolicited SMS that contains a hyperlink,’ they continued.
Key Takeaways
  • The Australian government's digital ID app myGovID will be rebranded as ‘myID’ to distinguish it from the myGov services portal.
  • This change, scheduled for mid-November, aims to eliminate confusion and will be implemented through an app update.
  • Existing myGovID users will not need to create a new account for myID, and their login details and identity strength level will remain unchanged.
  • The ATO advised users to be vigilant for impersonation scams and to only download the app from official sources, while never clicking on unsolicited links.
We'd love to hear your thoughts on this change. Have you used myGovID before, and do you think the rebrand to myID will make a difference in your digital dealings? Share your experiences and insights in the comments below!

Absolutely, this Labor pack of communists have already made it perfectly clear what they represent. Their constant travelling back and forth to China and sucking up to the CCP for a better trade deal with those war-mongering criminals. I am voting them out, If I had the power, I would send them into exile into the centre of a war zone to be used as target practice.
Do you still look under your bed for imaginary Commies?

McCarthyism is alive and well in the Attrick Attic!

I must agree with IAN3005, this is how it started in China look at it now. The ID must be used EVERYWHERE including social media and you say one thing out of line or against the Govt. and they punish them quickly and in many ways, restricting travel type and even where they can travel too. Check it out and become informed not apathetic.
Another person has seen the light... it is closer than we think....
The government think that we are fools.....

If people are getting paid/receive money by the government, then they know everything. People have to declare income etc. which every country in the world does.

I'm actually gobsmacked at the amount of seniors that think the government is out to get us.
We've been here long enough to see that it hasn't happened in our life times up to date so what makes people think it's actually going to happen.
Like I said before, I don't care if they know who I am, where i'm from, where I go and what I spend my money on, I feel safe in the knowledge that if anything goes wrong for me then they will help me.

I don’t lose any sleep thinking someone could be out to get us. But life is not the same as it used to be. I can’t wrap my head around the technology that continues to grow. Yet there is nothing I can do about it.

We do still have to protect our own interests. That is something I can TRY to do. But I don’t have the technological knowledge that some do. Scammers are so advanced and will continue because money is what drives them.

I agree that the scammers have got out of control in the last 10+ years but it's common sense not to fall for it, I do understand how a lot of elderly people get sucked in though.
But it was pretty much unheard of in the 70s and 80s, except if you don't count the Kirby vacuum salesman coming to your door, sadly I got sucked in to buying one but a cluey friend found out what I did and because it was within the 10 day grace period she called them up and cancelled it, I was very grateful for that.
As far as i'm concerned that was a scam!

I purchased a Kirby vacuum in the mid 80’s. For me, it was not a scam. It was the most powerful and durable vacuum I’d ever used. Living in a country town with four kids, pets and their friends often visiting, I needed a reliable vacuum.

I had it for nearly 40 years and it was as efficient as the day I bought it. The only reason I didn’t keep it was because I moved (down-sized) and space is a premium to me. Now I have a space-friendly Dyson vacuum.

But you’re lucky to have a friend who had your interests at heart. 😀

20 year ago mySpace was invented. It was a kind of clever name at the time, and people started copying the idea. Lots of product with names starting with my. But Myspace is gone, but we still have the copies. Now our unoriginal government has continued to do it too.

I'm sick of products starting with my. Stop it, please.
Hi GoodEnough:, MySpace has not gone, it still exists and I am still a member, MySpace.com. It is now owned by the musician "Justin Timberlake" and is geared toward music lovers. It also showcases new and upcoming bands and is a great place to find new music. It's an awesome site, but granted, it's nothing like the original MySpace was, which was owned by Micro$oft way back then. Same with ICQ, that is still functional.

Kirby Cleaners are great, especially if you got the full kit, with the dustless sander and carpet cleaner. Back in the 80's I used to sell them and got to know how good they were. One of the things we used to do when selling them, was to put a glass chamber, with a fine filter in, where the collection bag went. Then do 3 strips of a bed, around where the head was. Then show the "Prospective" customer what it collected in the glass container. It was amazing how many I sold, from just that one demonstration alone. Looking In the glass container, with a magnifying glass, you could see so many live micro organism's moving about. Was so gross to witness. But I also "Partly" agree with the original poster, that they were a bit of a scam. This was because of unscrupulous sales people doing the "Hard" sell. I disagreed with that approach and would not sell to people that clearly could not afford it. Consequently, I was fired for my soft approach. But they are really good though.

Kirby cleaners were the most efficient.
In our beach house, it used to pick up 10x more sand grit from the carpets.
They were pretty dear.

The government helps me by giving me a disibility pension once a fortnight and every 6 months I can get a $1000+ loan which I pay back in instalments once a fortnight, which is doable for me.
They also help me by having all my payments easily accessible when I log into Centerlink and I can log into my Health Record to see what's going on.
I don't need anymore help than that.
My bank helped me once when someone hacked my account and brought generic viagra from England, seriously lol, I got refunded within 24 hours, even less if memory serves.
They make it harder for scammers to hack my accounts now by having a 2 or 3 tier log in process and my passwords are hard to hack because I put in a series of !@#&* etc at the beginning, the middle, and the end of my passwords!
