Former Maccas employee spills some restaurant secrets, including why their soft drinks taste better

Have you ever wondered why the Coke at McDonald’s tastes a whole lot better than what you get out of a can?

Well, a former Maccas employee is here to tell you the reason why – and it’s actually backed by science!

Sharing on his TikTok account, Michael Ryan, who claimed to be a former employee of McDonald’s, said that the restaurant is more than just your typical fast-food store because “they have so much science behind everything”.

Then he proceeded to spill some behind-the-scenes facts about the restaurant.

The first secret is why their soft drinks taste better than the ones available in groceries – and the answer actually lies in their straws!

“Your straw at McDonald’s is larger. Do you know why it’s larger?” said Michael.

“Because it lets more carbonation hit your tongue and makes the soda taste better,” the former staffer revealed.

Now we know why the Sprite at Maccas leaves us feeling more refreshed than what we might find at the servo!

And it’s not just their straws, according to Michael. He also claimed that McDonald’s is in a partnership with Coke to create a special syrup for their fast-food chains.

“That’s why their Coke has a little bit more sugar and a lot more flavour.”

But wait, there’s more, and these secrets aren't exclusive to Macca's range of drinks!. Michael also revealed a few little-known truths about their food.

The first is about the restaurant’s grilled chicken, which he claimed is “injected with a saltwater mixture”. According to Michael, this keeps the meat moist and flavourful at the same time.

The next fact is about Macca’s crowd-favourite chicken nuggets. Michael claimed that McDonald’s actually gets their supply of chicken nuggets from meat company Tyson, meaning that their nuggets are not that processed and are actually “private labelled”.

But if you’re still in doubt about their chicken nuggets, why not try making your own at home? This video below might help:

And the last secret he shared is about their infamous ice cream machine, which is known for breaking down most of the time.

Michael said that the ice cream machines only get cleaned once a week, and their soft serves are made from whole whipping cream.

Who knew that there are so many secrets behind our favourite fast-food buys at Maccas!?

Just a few weeks ago, we also wrote about another former McDonald’s employee spilling more of their secrets, including another one about their ice cream machine!

The larger straws are no longer plastic but made from a papery material that goes soggy after a short period of time. I take My own thin plastic straws to Maccas now... and it still tastes great, EVEN the Sugar Free Coke.... Love it....
