First questions should be "did I visit any of these AO sites - do I have or is my camera uncovered. If answered Yes, then be it your own fault that it MIGHT be true. I don't visit any AO sites, I don't have a Camera on my master computer and the camera on all any other devices have a cover on them until I need to use it, then it's covered again once I'm finish.
So, any email like this goes straight in the bin and the bin is deleted & scrubbed each time I use any of my devices.

Yep my Webcam has a sliding cover. Only ever used during covid for my grandsons schooling.

They forget that their mobile phones or iPad are minicomputers. REMEMBER that anything that connects you to the INTERNET is a door to open for scammers.

For any of you that remembers me getting my bank hacked a few weeks ago by someone buying 'Cyber Ghost' I got my money back from the bank.
I got a full refund for the $115.05.
I just hope they can catch the bastards!

Another scam email arrived yesterday. This one had the “GIO” logo on it and claimed to be from their “Recoveries & Settlements, Motor Claims” section in Queensland.

The email said:
“Hi, Good Evening. Please find our proof of loss attached.” No name or address for the policy holder was given, only a long reference number in the subject line. No policy number was quoted.

A proof of loss form is completed by the policy holder to show what they have lost and detailing the cost of rectification. I do not have any insurance with GIO. They have no reason to be sending me a proof of loss form.

If you get this one, delete it.

I have had these emails too... it is a ploy to get into your system, which one allows by panicking and cow-towing to their demands and hitting the link. NEVER give in to these ratbags as they will take everything you have, if they can. They are leaches feeding off a persons' gullibility & vulnerability. They have no conscience whatsoever. DO NOT hit any link on their emails, just junkmail them & delete them right out of your email.

1 ordered 2 items online and received a text thanking me for my order of 5 items. I phoned my bank while I still had it on the screen. they stopped payment and gave me a refund. i cancelled my card and got a new one.

Another one I got was from Australia Post saying a delivery I had couldn't be delivered, was being held at the post office and I would have to pay an amount to have it redelivered to my home. I have an Australia Post account and knew that the parcel I was waiting for wasn't at the post office. I had a similar logo to Australia Post, so just put it into the spam folder. Getting tired of my spam folder being bigger than my inbox.

I seem to get these type of emails quiet regularly, at least one every month, all from different sources. I've been aware that they were all scams for a while now, I now have little to no contact with the ATO and I never have things delivered by Aus Post and so I never click on the links.
But being the fun lover prankster that I am, last week I did click on the link and then filled out information form.
I just wish I could have be a fly on the wall when the scammers read it. You see I filled it out as though I was a member of the AFP. All the information was true, including the Name, address and telephone number of the Federal Police Headquarters in the ACT.
I know this isn't going to stop them, but at least I had a good laugh that day and for once I didn't feel frustrated at not being able to do anything about them. These people are obviously devoid of any kind of care for the rest of humanity, they even hacked into my bank account the day after my husband of 44 years passed away and took my life savings of $15000. The only time my bank info had ever been put online was that same morning while I was paying the funeral home for his cremation. Thankfully after contacting my bank they reimbursed the money and secured my account. It certainly showed me that "YES, it can happen to you", the scammers don't care who they hurt. I'm certainly more aware of scammers now though.

Paypal and Facebook (Meta) users are subject to ongoing cyber attacks. One type is “problems with your account”, requiring you to “confirm” your details because of (unspecified) actions contrary to the organization’s policy. Another type is that you have made a purchase (that you do not recognize) and funds will be taken out of your account, or that you need to authorize payment. Another type is that your account is going to be suspended for a breach of some kind (unspecified) and you need to click the link to fix the problem. You may have received some of these contacts. All of these emails or texts are attempts to steal your financial and personal details.

If you see any of these, delete them. There are no problems with your account, you do not need to be concerned about purchases you have not instigated and your account is not about to be suspended. These despicable scammers trade on fear. They try to make out the matter needs your urgent response, getting you to act without thinking it through. If in doubt, check your account through Paypal or Facebook. Reassure yourself that there is nothing you need to do about your account.

In particular, be aware that if you get any emails or texts from the Australian Taxation Office asking you to click on a link, such as to confirm your tax details or expedite your refund, it’s a fake. Delete it. The ATO may send you an email asking you to call them about a matter, but that email will contain identifying information to confirm it is genuine. In that case, call them on their advertized number. They will never, never, never ask you to click on a link. Be safe. Use that delete button!
