In a shocking incident that has left many reeling, an 81-year-old woman is in dire straits after a brutal attack in the emergency department of a Sydney hospital.

Police initially responded to an assault at Bankstown Hospital where two women, aged 63 and 58, were reportedly attacked by a patient.

In a horrifying escalation, the same assailant was alleged to have inflicted bodily harm on the mother of these victims, the 81-year-old woman.

The New South Wales Police described the situation: 'It's further alleged the man then choked the woman and hit her head against the wall, causing her to lose consciousness.'

Hospital staff intervened promptly, providing immediate assistance and medical treatment to the victims.

A spokesperson for Bankstown-Lidcombe Hospital stated: 'Our social workers are providing support to the patient's family.’

The spokesperson also confirmed that no staff members were injured in the incident, but counselling and support have been offered to those who witnessed the horrifying event.

The hospital is fully cooperating with the police investigation and has assured that public access to the emergency department has been maintained, with no disruption to patient care or services.

Can't name this thug, for his own protection? Legal reasons? Protection of his family?
Why not?
What about the safety of the public or his neighbours or his own family members, his partner, etc if no one knows about this dangerous idiot? Or don't they matter? This scum is a risk/danger to others but no one seems to care any more
Someone at hospital should've given him an injection, you know the kind!

He was Richard Po Lun Lim 28, of Russel Lea, he was remanded in custody Friday afternoon after he appeared in Parramatta Local Court over the assaults at Bankstown Hospital.

Apparently he was unknown to these women and he was in Casuality after he was involved in a car accident. One on the 81 year old daughters had an altercation with him when she went to the toilet and it escalated from there.

My daughter has been doing work placement at that hospital and security is very tight .

Apparently the 81 year old is in a critical condition with a bleeding brain , so not looking good for her

I have no doubt that the offender suffered from a psychiatric episode, i.e. paranoid schizophrenia, and should not have been out in public. If this is the case, those who have willingly closed down facilities which treat people with mental illness, should be held accountable. When I was a psych R/n, both mental hospitals, Glenside, and Hillcrest, in South Australia were closed, and patients allowed into the community, without the coping skills to care for themselves. Many were a threat to themselves, and others in the community. I'm willing to bet, the person who attacked this unfortunate elderly woman, is schizophrenic. Shame on politicians for our broken health system.

I stumbled upon Lets Lucky Casino in Australia website while searching for a reliable source of information about online casinos. I was pleasantly surprised by the wealth of content they offer. From in-depth game reviews to valuable tips on maximizing bonuses, the site has become my go-to resource for all things related to online gambling.
What in earth does that have to do with anything related to this article.
If you had any sense you'd stay away from online gambling.

I've just read that the offender had an altercation with the victim's daughter, so not mentally ill. My feelings about the health system remain the same.

There are no words to describe how I feel. If ever you needed evidence that society has well and truly disintegrated this is another example. We hear something every day along similar lines. So glad I grew up in the era I did and my days on this earth are numbered.

Golly it's so sad. It's as if someone has flicked a switch and our beautiful country is totally going down the tube. I don't recall 🤔 when I was growing up in the 60s and 70s the sort of horror that we hear every day. My sister was living in East Africa and that was out of control but it was quietened down.
I do believe there was generally more respect as many folk were still reeling from WW2 and we still did as was expected of us. Like civilised people do.
I don't pretend to know the answer and looking towards what is meant to be the best country in the world, not my words only repeating, as The United States of America is so scary. Go to school get shot, go grocery shopping get stabbed, get sick and hospital care for uninsured folk is basically non existent. I scratch my head trying to see great then toss that Trump fellow into it i reckon id sell my possessions buy a boat and hit the Polynesian Islands, can't be worse can it?
Australia we have to take back our country, somehow.

PS I apologise about the length of my reply. I don't see many people 😕

Gotta wonder if ice/drugs involved (no excuse), especially given there'd been an accident

You hear all the time these horrific stories of people not being able to access mental health services. My ex, who suffered from bipolar had to be committed to Graylands on two separate occasions when he was psychotic. Strangely enough I had no difficulty on having him committed on these occasions.
However, several years later, after we had separated he had been committed again, but released again while still psychotic, within 24 hours he had committed suicide.
So much for our mental health system. Why our powers that be felt that families should take care of mentally ill people is beyond me.
I tried that and nearly got myself killed.
What is the answer, these people are not to blame, they are sick and should not be walking the streets
Nobody knows about the mental state of this person. The fact that he had a previous altercation with the daughter does not mean that he wasn't having an episode. That could have been enough to send him over the edge, or perhaps not. Not our place to judge without having the full detaild.
My best wishes go out to this poor unfortunate lady.🌹

Don't apologize, that's what we're here for. I, for one, totally agree with you.

Hi, yes, I amended my statement. Even so, there have been incidents in Adelaide where people with a psychiatric disorder have attacked strangers.
And I'm guessing that's the case everywhere.

I'm thinking people also can be normal one minute then the next have a breakdown.

It's sad that alot of mental illness isn't picked up and we have to remember mental illness is also a sickness .

Let's not confuse it with psychotic episodes brought on by drug taking.

Or perhaps a head injury from the car accident. Who knows??
I'm not making excuses for this person, perhaps it's drugs, perhaps he's just a grub. We don't know.
I thought the same thing. Maybe he had injuries to the head caused through the accident.
We can't judge unless we have the full story and this article that was posted isn't an updated one.

After reading the article I thought he must have been related to them 🤔
