Customers poke fun over sales pricing blunders: “Bargain of the century!”

In what seems to be a series of recurring incidents these days, customers are noticing that some stores put “sale” labels on items that are on a 0% discount!

So naturally, as any good Aussie shopper would, they shared it with fellow customers and poked fun at the store.

Take that, IGA and Big W! How dare you get our bargain hunting hopes up!

In the popular Facebook group Markdown Addicts Australia, one Victorian woman shared a photo showing an “amazing bargain” at her local IGA.

In the picture, a slightly damaged carton of Diet Coca-Cola can be seen with a discount label, meaning that it is currently on sale. However, a quick look at the sticker on the item’s packaging reveals the glaring mistake.

From the previous price of $20.99, the carton of soft drinks is now on sale for the bargain price of $20.99. Wow! That seems too good to be true eh?

The woman’s post was met with similar reactions from fellow shoppers, with each member playing along with the gag!

One member said the staffers must have thought April Fools Day came early. Meanwhile, another pointed out that this markdown price at least beats the 1 cent savings stickers.

A third person even joked that the worker who put the sticker on “should have gone to Specsavers!”

A similar price blunder was soon posted in the same Facebook group, but this time, it was Big W who was at fault.

During her shop at the store, a woman from Canberra spotted an amazing deal on a pair of sports shorts. Originally priced at $10, it was put up on sale for the low price of… you guessed it, $10!

“I do love an irresistible bargain!” the woman joked in her caption.

Several members joined in on the fun once again.

“Glad you got it - bargains are so hard to find these days!” said one user, while another chimed in and added: “I hope you left some for the others!”

I bought a child's beanbag from a Big W store and was charged $25 and decided to come home and wash it before buying the beads on the same day nearer home. The beanbag I had purchased was $12 at this store. I immediately contacted the first store and they were very unhelpful. I complained to Big W on line and was given the runaround and finally they said that I had probably gone on different days and as it had been washed it could not be changed. Is all I wanted was an apology but still waiting!!!!

This sort of thing happened to me just before Christmas when I found a rack of men's polo shirts with a huge red sign on the top of the rack saying "all items 40% off". I chose 4 lovely shirts for my hubby for a Christmas gift. However when I took them to the register the cashier said they were not sale items. On questioning this an attendant came to check the rack. When she looked at the shirts they were all a different brand to the ones that were supposed to be on sale. Not sure why but maybe someone had put the wrong shirts on the wrong rack. Lucky for me Kmart accepted it was their fault and I got quite expensive shirts at 40% off.

I went to Coles and had to get a lamb roast, I thought I might grab a pack which had a nice leg of lamb and 6 bbq chops plus 6 sausages in it. The price ticket said $20.9 so I happily picked it up not realising the decimal point was in wrong spot and continued shopping. When I got to the checkout the pack of meat I bought came up as $2.09. I was extremely surprised and being curious I asked checkout girl if she had made a mistake? Re scanned it and was still $2.09. Now that is what I call a bargain!

I went to Big W just before Christmas and saw a linen basket for $15.00 on a shelf. When I was walking down another aisle I saw a stack of them on “special” for $25.00.
I took the $15.00 one to the checkout and when it was scanned it came to $25.00.
A boy was sent to check and he came back with $25.00. I said: “No way. I’ll show you where I got it”. Took him to the aisle and he looked at it and said: “This is last weeks price.”
I asked to see the Manager who argued with me about the price. I took a photo of both items and said: “I’ll put this into Fair Trading, my brother works there.”
Needless to say I got my linen basket for $15.00 and a few other people also were listening and expressed their opinions of R.I.P. off.
