Thanks Jon, I either Google "butterflies" and see if I can see a pic that matches or my friend in the South Australia Museum (Discovery Section) helps me. I've been doing macro photography of insects for them for a few years now... Linda also uses my images when she teaches classes in at the Museum.
There are also a few butterfly sites on the web that can sometimes help.. Linda is always my best bet though...I'm also a member of an International photography site and there is a couple of very knowledgable insect guys on there...
Actually Ron, there's an app (should be available for both android and apple phones) called 'Google Lens'.
It's free to download... Basically you load the pic into the app, and it tries to identify it. I use it mainly for trying to identify plants, but I think it would work with butterflies too!
