Australia Post issues a warning to customers regarding the Christmas rush

Ah, Christmas. The season of (gift) giving. But while you’re busy planning what to buy for your loved ones, it’s equally important to be mindful of certain deadlines for deliveries to ensure your gifts reach their intended destination on time.
Case in point: Australia Post recently announced their last sending dates, urging Aussies to get themselves organised this coming festive season.
Cut-off dates for the upcoming holidays have been shared by Australia Post to ensure gifts arrive in time for Christmas.
For parcels sent to and from destinations within Australia through Parcel Post, they should be sent by Monday, December 18.
As for Express Post parcels, the deadline is on Thursday, December 21.
Meanwhile, for parcels sent to or from Western Australia or the Northern Territory, a few extra days should be allotted according to Australia Post.
'We know these last-sending dates are very important for customers to help ensure cards and gifts make it in time to loved ones near and far,' Gary Starr, Australia Post’s Parcel, Post and eCommerce Services Executive General Manager, said.
'Of course, if items are sent after the recommended dates, they will still be delivered as quickly as possible, but they may not arrive until after Christmas.'
In the previous year, 52 million parcels were delivered by Australia Post and a similar rush is expected this year.
Furthermore, Australia Post noted on their website that deliveries, especially those sent overseas, may be affected by factors beyond their control such as 'customs delays, overseas postal disruptions and COVID-19 restrictions'.
They recommended sending as early as possible and before the cut-off dates given, so Australia Post 'can get there on time'.
As for international deliveries, these will need to be arranged earlier, with some needing to be sent as early as November 16, especially those off to far-flung destinations.
For those sending via Economy Air, the deadline for cards and gifts fall between November 16-29. But this would still depend on the gift’s destination.
On the other hand, International Standard customers get a few extra days to find the perfect gift for the holidays, as the deadline falls between November 23 to December 7.
Last-minute shoppers could also give themselves another week if sending via International Express, as the deadline for this service is set to be between November 30 to December 13.
However, this option may be heavy on the wallet, with prices for International Express starting at $28.05 for letters and documents and $30.35 for parcels.
