Aussies are saving money on petrol with this 'Happy Hour' deal

People were pleasantly surprised to see a Sydney petrol station holding a 'happy hour' for their customers in response to the rising cost of living.

A recent announcement made at the Metro service station in St. Mary's, located in Western Sydney, informed customers of a 'Happy Hour' discount of 10 cents per litre.

The deal is good for all of the station's fuel, including diesel, if you buy it between 9 pm and 5 am. (Yes, if you want to save money, you have to go there late at night…)

And since the promo is only advertised at the pump, it seems to be aimed at local customers in the area and those who heard about it from other people.

On an A4 sign that is stuck to the side of the bowser, it says: 'Attention customers, we will have happy hour every night between 9 pm and 5 am whereby prices of Unleaded 91, E10, Premium 98 and diesel will go down by 10 cents per litre on the regular daily price.'

The final part of the announcement wished customers 'happy saving' beside a smiling yellow emoji.

Someone who just so happened to be passing by the area observed an employee put up the sign informing customers of the news. So, he decided to spread the word online to help other people looking for cheap petrol.

But not everyone thought the offer was great.

One person commented that this was nothing more than 'price gouging,' and that it would make perfect sense for petrol prices to drop between the hours of 9 pm and 5 am, given that there are fewer people outside and driving.

Others also mentioned that this was nothing new and that their local Metro Fuel also offered a happy hour before.

According to a spokesperson for Metro Petroleum, it was the franchisee who decided to hold the happy hour at the St. Mary's station.

He went on to say that this was probably done to help give back to the community, as well as to thank clients for their continued patronage.

The spokesperson finished by saying that Metro Fuel makes every effort to share savings with all of its customers, especially now that a lot of Aussies are struggling.

I would not question nor complain if my local servo did the same. I would grab it with both hands. Any chance to save a dollar or two. The youth of today do not know what is about to hit them with the loaded dice of high inflation, high interest and low wages and a Labor government. In retrospect might toughen some of them up a bit and make them appreciate the little things in life.

I do not agree with the way that you showed this fuel saving post on your site as I thought it was for the whole of Australia only to find out out it is for Sydney. How about thinking of the rest of Australia also when advertizing this stuff as we are all hurting with these high fuel prices and more Australians live outside of Sydney.

I said similar to my kids. They were complaining about the interest rise , I said lucky you were not paying of a house in the 80s when I was paying 13 % interest and others as much as 18%

We have an app on our phone that shows all the petrol prices in our area. Silly going too far for cheap prices as you will use the savings in fuel to get there.
Where ever you can save you should, even bit adds up.

My son wasn't happy with interest rate rises , I replied lucky you weren't me in the 80s paying 13 % , he replied people borrowed less so had lower loans , I replied yeh and wages were alot less too, like $600 a fortnight

My view is that a few dollars saved here or there adds up to a more significant amount. I would be happy to save even if it is at night time. Pity it is only available in Sydney as I don't live there.
I my city some small independents and Costco are cheaper than big petrol companies.

For those of us who do live in Sydney, it is much appreciated to be made aware, or reminded at least, that there are great fuel deals available here. There’s nothing stopping you from researching attractive prices in your area! Incidentally, we in Australia still spell words the English way, as we were taught in school. So the correct spelling is ‘advertiSing’, not with a ‘Z’ as the US uses. We’re slipping badly in that regard Aussies!
I have found Petrol Spy very useful, also last weekend fuel was cheaper down Warrnambool/Port Fairy way than Melbourne ????
I also use Petrol Spy, a very handy app. Even when friends call in, they ask me to check the app for them as to local fuel prices, and they’r happy for me to provide that info to them and, when they leave here, they head on up to the local servo that offers the best price at the moment. We all benefit from the app. Highly recommended!

Please read ‘they’re’ for ‘they’r’ - sorry: typo!

For the vast majority of us who do not live anywhere near Sydney "Aussies are saving money on petrol with this 'Happy Hour' deal" is very inappropriate.

A more realistic heading would be "Sydney siders are saving money on petrol with this 'Happy Hour' deal" so that we don't get sucked into the "Click Baiting" Ad for Metro.

Won't happen here in WA as it would be illegal under fuel watch were service stations must post there prices daily and cannot change them (up or down).

He went on to say that this was probably done to help give back to the community, as well as to thank clients for their continued patronage.

The spokesperson finished by saying that Metro Fuel makes every effort to share savings with all of its customers, especially now that a lot of Aussies are struggling.

Thousands of Aussies are saving money on petrol right now thanks to a website that not many people know about.

Petrol Spy Australia provides users with information regarding low rates for petrol in each and every city around the country, making it much simpler for them to choose which location offers the greatest deal.

Users simply have to search their postcode or the type of petrol they need, and then a map shows the best option and when it was last updated.

The maps display different petrol stations, such as Ampol, Caltex, Costco, Coles Express, Woolworths, BP, 7-Eleven, Shell, United, Metro Petroleum, and individual servos.
