Are you over 60 and looking for love? Here are some signs that you're a catch!

When you reach a certain age, it can feel like the dating pool starts to shrink. You might find that most of your friends are married with children and grandchildren who take up all their time, and the single friends that you do have are just that - friends. In our experience here at the SDC, it’s definitely not as easy to make new acquaintances as it once was.

But just because you're not 22 anymore doesn't mean you have to give up on love! Research has shown that most single people over 60 are interested in finding a partner, and they're also more confident in themselves than when they were younger.

So if you're looking for love but haven't had much luck so far, don't worry – there's still plenty of time. And to help increase your chances of meeting someone special, we've compiled a list of signs that suggest you're a catch! If any of these apply to you, then go and put yourself out there – the world is your oyster.

1. A Great Sense of Humour – This one should be pretty obvious. Being able to make your date laugh is always a good thing, and it's even better if you share the same sense of humour. According to recent research, 60% of singles say this is one of the most important qualities they look for in a partner. So if making people laugh comes naturally to you, then use it as an icebreaker next time you meet someone new!

2 You Pay Your Way – Most people nowadays want an equal partnership when it comes to dating and relationships, which means splitting the bill evenly down the middle whenever possible. 46% of those surveyed said this was important to them. You can certainly still offer to pay though but know that your date may prefer to split (or pay for YOU)!

3. You're a Considerate Lover – Another important quality that potential partners look for is consideration. This can manifest itself in many ways, but being a considerate lover is up there. 45% of those surveyed said it was important to them, so if you always make sure your partner is enjoying themselves and are always looking for new and exciting ways to keep the spark alive, then you're definitely a catch!

4. You Do Your Share of the Housework – One of the biggest causes of arguments in relationships is usually over household chores. But if you're the type of person who is always happy to pull their weight around the house, you’re certainly desirable! 42% of those surveyed said this was important to them.

5. You Have a Good Relationship With Your Children – If you're a parent, then having a good relationship with your children is definitely a sign that you're a catch. 39% of those surveyed said it was important to them. This shows that you're not only a great parent, but you're also someone who can maintain healthy and positive relationships – both of which are very attractive qualities.

Other considerations topping the survey included:
  • Not getting too drunk – 38%
  • Not carrying too much ‘emotional baggage’ – 37%
  • Not being afraid of getting older – 35%
  • Being in good shape physically – 33%
  • Having your own teeth (we're not sure if this one was a joke) – 32%
  • Having a lust for life – 30%
  • Liking to travel – 28%
  • Having good taste in films – 24%

1. Online dating – this is a great way to meet new people safely and conveniently. There are plenty of websites and apps that cater specifically to singles over 60, so you can easily find someone who shares your interests and values.

2. Join a club or group – whether it's a hobby that you're passionate about or something more general like a book club, joining a club or group is a great way to meet new people who share your interests. It's also a great way to get out of the house and socialise, which is important for your mental health and well-being.

3. Go out and about – make the most of your local area and go out and about as much as possible. This could mean taking a walk in the park, going to the cinema, or even just window shopping. You never know who you might bump into!

4. Attend local events – there are always plenty of events going on in your local area, so make sure you check out what's happening and see if there's anything that takes your fancy. From art exhibitions to farmers markets, there's bound to be something that interests you. Plus, it means you already have something in common!

5. Get involved in your community – another great way to meet new people is to get involved in your community. This could mean volunteering for a local charity, attending community events, or even just being more active in your neighbourhood. Not only will you be doing good, but you'll also get to meet new and interesting people.

So if you’re looking to put yourself back out there, take this as your sign. You’re a catch and deserve to find someone who makes you smile.

I contended to put this sign in my Bedroom window, half a bed to rent but as I live in a close and the bedroom is at the other end of my house I did not see if there were any takers, thinking of buying a ventriloquist doll so I can talk to myself HA HA

Dear JayKay
Please do not let one bad guy, paint all the others the same colour! I was knocked about by my father as a kid, so I know what it is like to be on the receiving end! I could not wish that on anyone, let alone a woman! I thought I was married for life too, but my ex had other ideas. I did not see it coming. Take care and stay safe! Regards Phil

Thank you, Phil. Your kind words mean so very much to me.
I do understand that there are more good guys out there than bad guys, at times I yearn for the "love" of my husband....the man I thought I married.
I have been alone for 28 years now, so am probably too old and set in my single ways.
I am grateful that I am still alive, and can still be Mum to my precious adult son who is studying in another state.
I still suffer from the consequences of domestic violence, so everyday, there's a physical reminder of the causes.
However, my former husband will one day be accountable to his Maker.
Deepest gratitude for your heartfelt response.

Hi again, dear Phil,
My son is doing a PhD in Sydney.
I live in Melbourne.
I became a committed Christian on 22 July 1961. I remember that day ever so vividly.
I appreciate you supplying your email address for me.
Yes, the love of Jesus and His faithfulness has kept me going.

Been doing my own thing now for over 30yrs, too comfortable in my own zone to want to step outside it now, my world revolves around my children & grandchildren, close friends & work, and I know I'm way to selfish to want to share my life with anyone else not to mention the baggage I have all wrapped up in one child with mental health issues. Would never inflect that on another person, ever.
