I must object to the description used of Kiev the Russian city it is not it is Ukrainian. Yes the Russians certainly did claim it after WW11 but fortunately the Ukraine people got the independence after I think Mr. Gorbachev brock up much of the former Soviet Union.

I often buy the 4 pack of kievs from whichever supermarket I am in at the time, and most often a 4 pack is under or just on $10. It’s not my habit to have these go-to meals on a regular basis but pre-packaged can be a time saver or just for a change.

I believe some Woolworths deli sections are offering them @ $1.50 at the moment as member ‘darrelh’ has said here today also. No doubt they will be gone before any of us get there, at that price.

The article states ‘The dish is believed to have originated in the Russian city of Kyiv’ . I’m not up on history but the words “believed to have originated” were mentioned. Ukraine is now the home of Kiev. And pardon my spelling of the name of this city at present.
 
You can buy them fresh from woolworths deli regularly on sale for $1.50ea so that is far cheaper than Aldi and they are delicious
Currently on sale at Woolies for $1.50 each. By comparison the Woolies ones are not whole chicken breast as the Aldi ones seem to be but we stock up and use the Woolies ones whenever they are on special and we have no probs with them.

They are right, the Kiev go on sale all the time for $1.50, I buy half a dozen and freeze them in two lots because one is enough for me, but my husband has two. They also have cheap schnitzels go on sale for around $1.00, sometimes they are the sandwich type, but still grab a heap of them and freeze them for when you want an easy cook night or even BBQs, picnics, etc. It goes as far as your imagination. It pays to take a quick look in the deli department.
 
Make your own and also Woollies has these on sale all the time in their deli section $1.50. They are on sale in Woollies this week 24.5.2023 - Tuesday 30.5.2023.

I haven't tried them yet. But may give them a try next time.

One thing I noticed is that Woollies have raised their legs of lamb up by another $3.00 p/kilo.
 
My favourite chicken from Aldi is the chicken breast filled with ricotta and spinach and covered with filo pastry. We used to buy a few and put them in the freezer , unfortunately I have not seen them for a couple of years. I wish they brought them back in the shop.

Unfortunately, our nearest Woolies was one of those that lost their fresh meat butchery & the fresh chicken dishes disappeared with them. 2/ As above, the writer of the article might like to replace "Russian" City of Kyiv with "Ukranian", given what's been going on there for over a year & still happening. I'd imagine that any Ukrainians reading that might be upset. After all, New Zealand was once part of the NSW Colony, but we'd never say the "Australian City of Auckland", for example.

Woolworths has Chicken Kiev for $1.50 each this week. Definitely worth buying.

Woolies ‘special’ of these are from their deli section and often go very quickly so you need to be in the right place at the right time, so to speak. I gently fry mine (either Aldi or Woolies brand) instead of using the oven for just two of us and just 2 serves of the.

Woolies ‘special’ of these are from their deli section and often go very quickly so you need to be in the right place at the right time, so to speak. I gently fry mine (either Aldi or Woolies brand) instead of using the oven for just two of us and just 2 serves of the.
If they are an advertised special at $1.50 ea, they must be available whilst the promotion is advertised!!

Woolies are not allowed to "run out" of them, as if there are minimal on display in the Deli, there's always more in the deli store fridge, just ask the staff!!
 
These cook beautifully in the air fryer if you have one and don't want to use the oven. Quick and delicious, add your potatoes and sweet potatoes and half your meal done.
 
Thanks for this info to both who wrote about the advertised special and the air-fryer. I do have an air-fryer and will try them next time in it, just found the crispness is a little too much for my husband though. Off to buy some now in bulk (about 10 or so) for the two of us and if I am told again (as I was once before) I will challenge the date of the offer.
