While a third said: ‘Love these, bought this week for $6.49 at my closest ALDI. I just pop them frozen into the oven at 160°C for 30 minutes.’

‘We love them,’ another social media user shared.

Someone else said the Chicken Kiev packs were perfect for their family of five.

‘It is very economical to get three packs. Put some spuds in foil in the oven at the same time. Don’t bake as high as the recommendations on the pack – a little lower and the butter won’t explode out,’ they explained.

Another stated: ‘Love this. Quick and easy dinner. One of my favourites for a busy night.’

So, if you’re looking for an inexpensive, super-tasty dinner option, make sure you stop by your local ALDI and give this amazing Chicken Kiev buy a try.

But if you’ve got a bit more time on your hands and would like to cook your meals from scratch, we’ve got just the thing for you.

This Chicken Kiev recipe combines the delicate flavours of chicken with garlic and herb stuffing, making it the ultimate crowd-pleaser. It's perfect for a cosy family dinner or for when you're hosting friends who won't be able to resist the delicious aroma wafting through your home.

Here’s what you need:

Ingredients (serves 4 people):
  • Butter (100g)
  • Softened 3 cloves garlic
  • Crushed 1 teaspoon finely grated lemon rind
  • 2 tablespoons finely chopped fresh flat-leaf parsley
  • 2 tablespoons finely chopped chives
  • 4 chicken breast fillets (800g)
  • 1/3 cup (50g) plain (all-purpose) flour
  • 2 eggs, beaten lightly
  • 2 cups (140g) breadcrumbs
  • Vegetable oil for deep frying
  • Mashed potato (optional)
  • Steamed asparagus (optional)
  • Lemon wedges (optional)
To cook the Chicken Kiev, follow these steps:

1. To start, combine the softened butter, garlic, lemon rind, parsley, and chives in a small bowl. Grab your trusty wooden spoon and beat the mixture until it's fully combined. Then, using a piece of plastic wrap, shape the mixture into a 20 cm log. Wrap it tightly, and place it in the freezer until it becomes firm.

2. While you're waiting for the butter log to freeze, prepare the chicken fillets. First, cut them in half horizontally, not completely through – just enough to open them out. Place the fillets between sheets of plastic wrap and gently pound them using a meat mallet until they're about 1 cm thick.

3. Once your butter log has firmed up, cut it into four equal pieces. Place a piece of butter at one end of each fillet, then roll once, fold in the sides, and continue to roll up. Toss the chicken roll in the flour, dip it in the beaten egg, and coat it in breadcrumbs. Repeat this process for each chicken fillet, and then refrigerate your coated rolls for 30 minutes.

4. To cook your Chicken Kiev, heat the vegetable oil in a medium saucepan. In two separate batches, deep-fry the chicken for approximately 10 minutes or until it's golden and cooked through. Drain well on paper towels to remove any excess oil.

5. Finally, serve your delicious Chicken Kiev with a side of steamed asparagus and creamy mashed potatoes. Complete the dish with a garnish of lemon wedges for an extra zesty touch.

Thanks for this info to both who wrote about the advertised special and the air-fryer. I do have an air-fryer and will try them next time in it, just found the crispness is a little too much for my husband though. Off to buy some now in bulk (about 10 or so) for the two of us and if I am told again (as I was once before) I will challenge the date of the offer.
Managed to get 24 of these beauties without any hassles - my local Woolies was very well stocked today. Given some to two of my adult children for their families. Only thing I found was they were a little soft and slightly misshapen but I’ve reformed them and they’re now in the freezer in packs of 2 for when needed. All gets chewed and goes down the same way so no big deal.

Absolutely disgusted at the ignorance. "Russian city of Kiev" is in fact the Ukrainian capital of Kyiv which the Russians have bombed relentlessly for over 12 months killing thousands of citizens and destroying much of Ukraine. Even our politicians are blaming higher fuel and food prices on the war in Ukraine. Please show some understanding of what is happening in the world!

Kiev has not been part of Russia since the breakup of the Soviet union more than 25 years ago. It is now known as Kyiv and is a part of Ukraine that the Russians are brutally bombing. This is daily on our news.

You wrote Kiev a Russian City ,please apologise it is the Capital of Ukraine !

Was it SDC staff or the manufacturers you should be complaining to about the spelling and country that now has that city as its capital?

Woolies ‘special’ of these are from their deli section and often go very quickly so you need to be in the right place at the right time, so to speak. I gently fry mine (either Aldi or Woolies brand) instead of using the oven for just two of us and just 2 serves of the.
Hi Catherine. Yes, our Deli section disappeared when the Butchery shut down. It's since been replaced in a different part of our Woolies with a much smaller one. Thanks for the cooking tip, but with 6 in our family, it's a tray for the Kyiv's & another full of chips in the oven for us. :)
