A woman's question about time has left the internet baffled, proving that everyone has their own perception of time and semantics.

Social media users were scratching their heads when TikTok user Erica Mallett, who posts under the username @erica_mallet, shared a video of her asking the relatively easy question on her profile.

"You don't truly know someone until you've asked them."

"You could have known them for 10, 15 years. You could feel like you know them inside out but the answer to this question will change everything you think you knew about them."

"If I say we have a meeting at midday and then I say, 'Can we move it forward two hours?', what time is that?"

A number of users argued about whether the correct answer was 10 am or 2 pm, with some arguing that moving the time forward meant 2 pm while bringing it forward meant 10 am.

One person wrote: "People saying 2pm actually don't understand how time works."

"Anyone not saying 10 am is just wrong," another argued.

"If you see yourself as moving through time, then you're moving towards 2pm and you will say 2pm," she quipped.

"If you see time as moving through you, you will say 10am."

One user jokingly said: "I'm trying to figure out how I got 4pm."

"I'm Finnish, just tell me the new time you are proposing," another said.

Forward means going forward, 12 on the clock dial, move hand forward to 2 o'clock.

It's all in the semantics, move it forward - 2pm, bring it forward - 10am, so in her instance as she said move the correct answer would be 2pm. Simple!!

Move it forward brings it to 10 o’clock. If you move it back then you put it off until 2pm. It’s not rocket science!

When we alter our clocks for the start of Daylight Saving in Spring, the saying is, "Spring forward", move your clock forward 1 hour, ie at 2am, you move your clock FORWARD to 3am.
At the end of Daylight Saving in Autumn, the saying is "Fall back", (Fall = Autumn), turn your clock back 1 hour , ie 3am becomes 2am.
So moving your clock forward is equivalent to going from 12 MD to 2pm.
If you want it to be 10am, say, "Let's bring it forward" .....10am.
