A couple's wild dispute with tradies divides the internet - which side are you on?

Here at the SDC, we’ve heard our fair share of neighbour disputes.

Remember that one article where someone threatened to poison a dog if it didn't stop barking? What about that person who left a nasty note criticising their neighbour's overgrown garden?

And who could forget the two-part story of the violent confrontation between neighbours over a brick wall, which resulted in a series of videos and a court case? It got so bad that even A Current Affair had to step in!

Many of us here are no strangers to arguments - it's just a part of being human. But what happens when those disagreements escalate to the point where tempers flare and things start getting physical?

Well, that's exactly what happened in a recent TikTok video that's been circulating online, showing an elderly couple engaged in a yelling match with some tradies.

The video, which was originally uploaded by user Raj earlier this week, shows the woman picking up handfuls of mud and throwing it at the workers while her partner stands close by, egging her on.

As Raj zooms in closer to get a better look at the scene unfolding before him, the elderly man can be heard saying: 'You cut the power.'

'Boys ripped off the wire,' he adds as his partner continues to scream obscenities at the workers.

At one point during their argument, one of the men working on site tells them that he will run a new powerline 'right now', prompting the woman to pick up more dirt and hurl it his way.

The situation then quickly spirals out of control when she turns her attention towards Raj and starts making threats towards him as well.

'Hey!' he yells out as she begins advancing towards him with something raised above her head (possibly another piece of debris). Luckily, he manages to make it inside and safely out of harm's way just in time!

After the video made its rounds online, it quickly gained a ton of attention from viewers who were eager to weigh in on the situation.

Some believe that the couple were justified in their anger, especially since it's unclear whether or not the workers gave them any warning that their power could be cut off.

'If they didn't give notice of cutting the power, then she has a right to be upset, but the dirt throwing is a little too much,' one person wrote in the comments section.

Others, however, believe that the woman went way too far in her reaction and that there's never an excuse for that kind of behaviour. They even said that the workers might have been simply following orders and not intending to do any harm.

'Even if it is the power thing, I would never act like this. I'd just politely say: “Hey, when will this be back on?”,' one user said.

Another argued: 'Angry that power was cut off ... yes! But throwing a tantrum and throwing debris at people is really uncalled for.'
Key Takeaways

  • A video of an altercation between an elderly couple and a group of tradies in Sydney's southwest has gained a huge amount of attention online, with viewers divided over who was in the wrong.
  • It is not immediately clear why the woman is so upset, but the man filming eventually reveals the workers had cut electricity to their home.
  • Some believe the couple were justified in their anger at having power cut to their home, seemingly without warning. Others, though, defended the tradies for simply doing their job.
At the end of the day, we can all agree that there's never an excuse for violence, no matter how angry or upset you may be. It's always better to calm yourself and talk things through or walk away from a situation before it gets too out of hand.

It may have been an over reaction but they should have given them notice of the power going to be off and in the original article it stated that she had baking in the oven at the time so food wasted and probably a lot of effort put into her cooking.

With the years of domestic violence that I endured, I vowed and declared to myself that I would never raise my voice in anger, that I'd never hang up on him and I'd never turn my back on him.
I didn't want to have anything to be ashamed of or regret that I'd said this or that.
Recently, my son said to me that he's never heard me yell.
If there's a report made to police, and you have to admit you yelled and screamed like a raving lunatic, you don't really get the point across.

Good grief! REALLY no need for such vile behavior from the couple. Things no doubt would have been quickly resolved if they had approached the workers like decent people & not elderly hooligans.

From what I get out of the conversation it was accidental and the tradie said he will fix it straight away then she throw dirt at him the fact is if she blinded one of them she would be charged

Things happen during building if they knew the power was to be cut they should have let those involved know although I think this was an accident.
I'm thinking they were just a cranky couple .
We have duplex being built 2 doors down and a double story 3 doors down both at the same time.
I don't know how many times we have told the tradies not to park in our driveway, my daughter was visiting yesterday with her 3 young children and I told her to park in the driveway as there would be no street parking , when she arrived there was another tradie parked in my driveway . Hubby went out again and asked who's car this is and they removed it.
Then late in the afternoon the guy with the stop sign was sitting on the bonnet of our car...I should have thrown rocks at him 🙄 but we asked him to please not sit on our car but if he was tired I would bring out a fold up chair.
Honestly these tradies are rude and disrespectful but no way would I throw dirt at them
