$25 buys from Bunnings solve annoying fridge gap problem

Do you have dozens of spices that just won’t fit in the cupboard? Are you tired of the annoying gap between your fridge and the wall being filled with cobwebs or dust bunnies?

A mother-of-one from Queensland also had the same problem, and she was more than happy to share how she solved both of them. Talk about killing two birds with one stone!

Lea Cos was in dire need of finding space to store more than 30 spices, but adding more cupboards was not an option.

“I had them stuffed away in big plastic containers in a hard-to-reach place in a corner cupboard,” said the mum.

Although she had heard of people making their own racks beside their fridges, she had no time to create one on her own.

“I had been aware of this method of storage for a few years, but it was too time-consuming and labour intensive to do from scratch.”

That’s when she discovered that the wooden spice racks from Bunnings fit perfectly between her fridge and cupboard.

She bought two of the Kit Out Timber racks, which sell for $25 each.

“I didn’t have to do anything except get some screws and drill one rack on top of the other,” said Lea.

“It was exactly what I was looking for. An added benefit is now the gap doesn’t fill with cobwebs or dust bunnies.”

“I cook from scratch a lot, so have a lot of spices,” she added.

“It is functional.”

Lea said the racks are visually accessible at a glance too, and she’s considering attaching a handle to make pulling it out easier. Photos from Facebook / Bunnings Mums.

The Facebook post attracted more than 700 likes and comments from the group’s members.

“Omg, this is what I need for that gap. I have been looking for months,” wrote one woman.

“Love this! I’ve been looking at spice racks, and this would fit between my fridge and cupboards,” another added.

“I’ve been looking for a rack like this for so long! So glad you shared! I thought I’d have to go back to my year 7 level skills and make one from scratch,” a third member jokingly added.

All the positive feedback left Lea ‘blown away’; she said she was happy to inspire many people looking for a quick storage solution.

I think on a tile floor, wheels probably wouldn't be necessary... Having said that, adding wheels seems like it would significantly improve the ease of use!

This is such a great idea. It's always so annoying to try to reach the back of the cupboard when cooking

My floor is timber, wouldn't want to scratch it, so wheels needed for me.
You could use the stick on felt feet, would slide well on the timber, when they get tired just peel off and replace.

Going to look into this and yes I think wheels would be handy.
If only going to slide out and straight back in you would only need straight rollers. They sit nice and close to the floor and would not move all over the place that you could scratch the fridge or wall when pushing back in.
