What makes autumn special for you?

Sorry Vella - not too fussed about Autumn. To me it is the beginning of the "brazen monkey" weather. My ideal perfect weather, consists of 30 degrees, with a light breeze - best wishes - Frank (alias Toad).

    The 'Joys' of Nullarbor Crossing

Before coming back to Perth after a lengthy stay on the East Coast, I travelled from Sydney to Perth via Melbourne & Adelaide, in my trusty purple Datsun 1200, which someone had rudely carved FU on the bonnet, with her high heal shoe. Somewhere in the middle of nowhere, I was getting low on...

    School Days.

School Days. One thing I will never forget, was the cane at primary school. My non-favourite was a large, but very likeable man, who named his cane "whispering willy", as it literally sang, as it came down from a great height. A certain female teacher with a height problem, use to get on tip...

Vanilla slices made with real Creme Patisserie. Light and luscious French custard not the heavy yellow fake custard that you see at most places.

These were simply the best. Another great similar item from the bakery, (& I believe are still available) was something called a "bees' nest" - even better than the original vanilla slice, pictured earlier - fattening of course, but who cares, well maybe a little bit? - cheers Toad.

    A Male Fairy Tale

To Craig - who said I didn't like it - on the contrary - if you read my response correctly, I said I had seen the same before, but with nefarious additions. This forum, however, would not let me include those additions - don't look into a situation that doesn't exist - cheers Toad.

    Old wood stove

Old wood stove Living in the country South of Perth, I remember these classic wood burning stoves. Apart from their obvious use, they were a great way to help keep the kitchen warm. One hazard, of course, was that there was little, or no way of controlling the hot plate temperature. Needless to...

    The Twist

The Twist Back in the old days, when I could actually "move", many of our generation used to head down to a place in Scarborough Beach W.A., known as the "snake pit". where the twist was the crowds' favorite dance craze. Two gang like groups - the Mods & the Surfers often clashed at said venue...

    Home made cooking

Home made cooking Image Credit: Shutterstock Many years ago, living in Nedlands, my mother used to make a type of "oranges & lemon" pudding, which my older sister rudely called "muck fuddy" - later examples of the varied dessert were labelled "megilla cuddy". Despite some unusual names...

    Building Forts.

Building Forts. As ten year olds we used to build forts in a disused quarry on the Nedlands foreshore, in Perth W.A. We had lots of fun, until one day I peered into the bottom of said fort & lying there quite happily was a very large dugite. Needless to say that was the last time we went...
