Shoppers hit with soaring card surcharges—are you affected too?

My retired banker's memory reminds me that when cards were introduced, fees could be collected by merchants on credit account transactions but not on payments from cheque or savings accounts. Somehow in recent years the Reserve Bank and ACCC have varied the rules, without telling customers, to...

Dusty barn car sells for stunning $230,000 at auction

I often think of the cars that I once owned and sold for only a few hundred dollars that are now fetching ridiculous prices since becoming collectible: e.g. a couple of Valiants and a HQ Holden amongst others.

Woman gets kicked out of shopping centre for being barefoot

It isn't illegal, but it is unhygenic and dangerous, possibly causing injury and slipping over. I always wear shoes or sandals and can imagine the discomfort of not doing so. A debate on the lack of safety if driving without footwear has been ongoing, even thongs can slip off at the wrong time.

Could your petrol spending habits be ruining your chances for a loan?

It used to be that financial information was sacrosanct and never to be exchanged between banks - on pain of dismissal. When did that change, and why?

Are you being 'punished' by your bank? Watch out for these high fees when transacting in your branch!

What used to be the archetypal service industry with customers its main focus but making sufficient profits from the deposits received, loss-making branches supported by profitable ones, has degenerated into a self-serving monster with fees levied on almost everything they do. A disgusting...

Woolworths CEO speaks out on self-service checkout issue

Once again minority opinion rules over the majority. I will continue to refuse to use these abominable self-service checkouts. I just hope that Woolies declaration that they will continue to offer the choice of manned or unmanned is fair dinkum.

What's hiding on your receipt? 'Alarming' detail sparks calls for big changes in Australia

Call me old-fashioned, but there is n o way I would entertain digital receipts. I require paper to audit what I've spent and do not want my information included in electronic devices. Simply stop using dangerous chemicals on the paper!

Outrageous $178 act leaves ALDI shoppers up in arms: 'Shame on this guy’

When are supermarkets going to wake up and abolish these stupid self-serve checkouts?

Feeling the Christmas pinch? Shoppers call to boycott Woolworths and Coles

    I favour a boycott over self-serve checkouts!

Are you using toilet paper wrong? Experts reveal common mistakes that put thousands at risk of dangerous infections!

Don't really fancy a bidet, but all the other advice is valid.

'Random' terrifying letter demands $20,000 and threatens entire housing block

Obviously a hoax. Anyone who receives anything like it should call the police immediately.

Uncover these brilliant discount tricks for your next online shopping!

My biggest complaint is the price variation from week to week, e.g. Jordan's Granola, $4.25 one week, $8.50 the second, $12.00 the next, then repeat the cycle. Woolies and Coles have identical pricing and I fail to understand how they could possibly justify such a wide range of pricing.

This minor mistake cost one grandmother over $3000 for a chicken sandwich!

Let's have some humanity and commonsense in matters like this. Typical heartless Govt. Dept.

Coles, Woolworths, IGA and ALDI affirm stance on supermarket self-serve checkouts

I detest them. Follow the US and UK and ditch them. Whatabout the theft and operational costs?

Strange new security gates at Coles are creeping out shoppers: ‘What’s going on here?’

They are looking at the theft problem all wrong, and complicating the entire shopping experience. As others have said, re-open service checkouts, employ people and get rid of self-serve, as a supermarket chain in the north of England has already done.

A Canadian visiting Australia can’t believe what unusual phrase everyone is saying!

I'd have thought "She's right, mate" is the most common varient.

Could your sleep apnoea mask with magnets be dangerous? TGA sounds new warning!

Not that problem but I have been ruled incompatible with CPAP machines, mainly because of excessive air leakage (probably anatomical) and an element of feeling suffocated.

Police arrest mum in her underwear over unpaid bill

It is unclear whether or when she paid the petrol bill. If not, she has only herself to blame.
