'Random' terrifying letter demands $20,000 and threatens entire housing block

Life in a quiet residential neighbourhood is often uneventful, with it being a place of routine and safety.
That's what residents of a small unit block in Sydney, particularly Silverwater, thought until a chilling letter was discovered on their doorsteps, catapulting them into an unnerving experience.
Residents were shocked to find a chilling letter at their front doors, threatening their lives and the lives of their children and pets unless they paid a hefty sum of $20,000 in cash.
The letter began with the ominous words, 'You are all in danger.'
'We have been given the task to get money from you, or we will kill you and your family (including your kids/pets).'
It claimed to be from a group of 'good hackers' who 'do assassinations for money' and warned that the residents' computers and mobile phones had already been compromised.
'We can listen to your calls, check your texts. We hacked your systems and got all the information we need for the job. We know exactly what your family movement timings are.'
'We know where you guys are working and studying. We are still outside your home observing the movement and using your internet right now.'
The letter then demanded the payment of '$20,000 in cash' to prevent any harm.
The residents were warned not to involve the police, with the threat that doing so would result in their quiet assassination, including their children and pets, by 'slaughtering (cutting your throat)'.
The letter ended with a chilling threat to burn the residents' homes with their bodies inside and to set their parked cars on fire.
'Just be careful we don’t want any police to get involved otherwise we will kill all of you in few days or months,' it concluded.
One of the homeowners, who wished to remain anonymous, said that the letters came 'out of the blue' and were 'really, really random'.
'It is a bit worrying. The guy’s got some real mental illness,' he said.
Footage also showed police officers interviewing the concerned residents, who reportedly believed that the blackmail attempt could be from a child or someone with a low mental capacity due to the letter’s poor grammar and structure.
Incidents like this send chills because they shatter the safety people hold paramount in their locales.
