    SDC Mother’s Day Memories

We weren't a rich family but there was always plenty of love. My Mum's mother died when Mum was only 2 so she never knew a mother's love herself but somehow made up for it to us ten times over. When we said we were still hungry she would give us her meal as she knew what it was like to go to...

    AIBU 06.05.2024

It's not an enjoyable outing if you are pressured into eating more than you want and then made to feel guilty because you don't eat your Mum's leftovers. I would not go out with them as you have rights too.

    Old computers

I remember how utterly fascinated we were by our first computer and the game we played - like a ping pong with a little white shape moving from side to side! I guess the guy that said personal computers would never catch on was wrong!

    Old laundry troughs

They were nice and deep and strong and as my Mum did all her washing by hand they were very well used!

    Desks with an inkwell

I remember the desks and inkwells well and how messy they were. The other important job I scored was blackboard monitor, making sure the blackboard was clean, there were enough chalks for the teacher and the blackboard eraser was also clean.

    Avon ladies

I used to love ordering from the Avon catalogue at work. Loved the moisturisers and some of the small roller perfumes - great for your handbag. Plus the Avon lady always gave you a free sample with your order.

Remember this 'luxury' supermarket item Aussies used to buy? It’s still around—prepare for a wave of nostalgia!

The original Vienetta was divine but of course "progress" has changed it to a shadow of it's former self except it has become more expensive.

    Remember being paid by cash?

Payday was a great day of the week and it felt more like you were actually being paid for your work rather than a transfer to the bank account.

Have Your Say: Rising Cost of Living in Australia

We came from a generation that learned to make do if money was tight. We didn't expect to get married and instantly buy a 3 bedroom home, a new car and travel the world with our 2.5 children. I'm sure we would all like more money but we are resourceful and always come through somehow. Being...

    Nighties

When I was a child I remember my younger brother as a baby wearing these nighties. They were very comfortable and snowy white. In those days the pride of the mothers was a line full of brilliant white nappies and baby clothes. No brilliant colours and patterns then.

Duchess of York shares important message on World Health Day: ‘Check in with yourself’

The Duchess of York has reminded us all of a very important thing which is to look after our health, get regular checkups and if something is not quite right we should see our doctor. I was fortunate to have a good doctor who although my symptoms were a bit vague decided to have some tests done...

Fish and chips served in newspaper

The best fish and chips I ever had was walking home with mum and dad and my brother from the pictures (cinema) on a cold evening in England and stopping at the fish and chip shop on the way and then eating hot chips from a little packet with newspaper around it to keep them warm. There was a...

Experts reveal how Centrelink's failures unfairly impact women's lives

This is worse than a third world country - our citizens deserve a whole lot better.

    Seersucker tablecloths

Useful, hardwearing and lots of different colours. Also inexpensive. Loved them.
