i lived on a farm in the country, born 1939 and to this day I do not remember anything about the war years. I had two older brothers and an older sister. Guess you could say I was an only child. A very lonely child who did not want for anything except company.

l love the snow and will never forget trying to get up this step hill in the car to the maternity home on the edge of the moors at 5am after it had just snowed.We had to go another way round and Sonja was born half an hour later. l looked out the window and all the snow was weighing the trees down and thick snow everywhere beautiful sight to see.

How beautiful that would have been abd what an experience and a great story to tell

lt was a great maternity home right at the top of a very steep hill next to a small paddling pool and moors. ln 1951 we had our first black person and matron Daphne Steele who was honored with a plaque after she finally left for becoming the first black matron.
