Tax relief for workers! what about tax relief for pensioners. We should be able to present our seniors card at the petrol pump for a 10 cent per litre discount on fuel. Fuel prices are well over taxed and a seniors concession would help us purchase food and pay rising Shire rates. Tommy

We pensioners will always be behind the eight ball no matter what. All governments have left us behind for many, many years and it won't change any time soon. These pollies have their humungous pensions to rely on. I left the Defence Force at 17 years and 9 Months to start a business, so I was 3 months short of 18 years, so I didn't receive a pension then. Federal Pollies can do one term (4 years) and receive a pension without putting their life on the line, I believe.

One word NO. Our rent has jumped by over $2500 a year. Medications, basic food, petrol and doctors visits have increased. We are on the disability and carers pensions and just to keep up would need at least an extra $100/week added to our pensions.

I'm with you on this... $100 a week minimum...... my rent went up by $145 a week. Plus private health cover, plus phone, plus internet,plus,plus and so it goes on.... $100 per week would keep me off the poverty line.....

Hi I worked at Bunnings for nine years but tore my rotator cuff at work but because I did this after retirement age work cover only covered me for 10 months ,as I now have a frozen shoulder and no copacity to work at the moment I no longer have work cover so had to under duress resign this is a government mandate so how can we stay in the work force after retirement age if we will not get work cover .Doesn’t make any sense if the government want us to work longer don’t understand

Workcover does not cover a person who is over 60, I think....

And what usually happens when we get an increase it disappears with other thing especially by certain government bodies who increase some costs or rents or price hikes in other commodities which will expertly remove any increase whatso ever which puts us further back behind the eight ball... When house and contents insurance increases by 25% over 2 years and you insure your property according to valuation replacement the pension increase is a joke considering all other cost of living increases.

Mine went up 50% this year alone, They said it was because of the floods.
I live in the wheatbelt, we have to worry about lack of water, not floods!!!

my gas bill has now equaled my electricity bill, (gas has increased %300 ). I can understand why younger folk prefer the dole...its just not worth working to end up broke, when we can import workers from overseas and they can send the money back home

This is once again an insult to pensioners who struggle to pay bills and eat at the same time. The cost of living well exceeds what a pensioner receives to supposedly live on, it is hardly enough to survive. If you want clothes you have to go to the op shop as it is hardly affordable from there even. A wonderful way to end a working life where you contributed to the upkeep of the country. Let's see our now Prime Minister survive on what we do. No flash engagement rings then hey!!! Waste of money on sports arenas etc when people are homeless and hungry. He is as much a disgrace as the previous one. Pensioners unite and stand up.

The pension is $904 a month short on the rent... plus I have $562 added expenses for electricity gas etc... I cannot afford to move and eat once a day. I would need at least $400 a week just to stay afloat

Just for interest sake how does this suggested increase of 1.8% compare with the increases that our Federal politicians receive?
Why is their increase in salary not increased with the same method as the pension?
Lets try and be fair for a change without having one rule for the poor and another for the privileged.
If they wish to "save a bit" They could always shut the subsidized bar at parliament house so that the poor underpaid pollies and their
hangers on have to pay the same price as us poor pensioners.
