"Your Mother’s on the Line…"
A man picks up the ringing phone and says with a sigh,
"Hi, Mom… Yeah, it’s been a rough day."
"Gladys has been… well, her usual self."
"I know, I know—I should stand my ground more, but it’s not that easy."
"You remember how she gets…”
Pause.
“Yes, I remember what you said before the wedding.”
“You warned me. Said she’d turn my life upside down. That she was stubborn, dramatic, and would drive me crazy.”
“You were right, Mom. You were absolutely right.”
He listens for a second, then nods.
“You want to talk to her?”
He lowers the phone, turns toward the living room and calls out:
“Gladys! Your mother wants to talk to you.”
