'Your body is in fight or flight': Former model and celebrity opens up about her ongoing health battle

In the world of glitz and glamour, celebrities' lives often appear to be one of luxury and ease.

However, the reality behind the scenes could be different.

A former model shared several bits of her ongoing health journey—and how it changed her perspective in life.

Aussie-Canadian celebrity and model Tara Rae Moss revealed her ongoing war against an invisible enemy: complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS).

The debilitating condition, which she started enduring eight years ago, subjected her to excruciating pain.

In an intimate interview with Stellar, Tara Rae opened up about the relentless agony that CRPS has inflicted upon her.

'Your body is in fight or flight, and you feel like you're being burned alive,' she shared.

'Your body doesn't know you're not being burned alive. You're actually having that experience in a real sense.'

The condition could be triggered by surgery, injury, or a minor medical procedure.

It may lead to severe, persistent, and often burning pain.

It's a pain that doesn't just hurt physically but can also take a toll on one's mental health and overall well-being.

For her, it meant being bedridden, relying on a wheelchair, and using a cane to explore the world.

However, Tara Rae found a silver lining in her condition.

Three years ago, she took a leap of faith and enrolled in a virtual reality (VR) trial, which gave her ways to manage chronic pain.

This innovative treatment, which uses immersive technology to distract the brain by rewiring pain signals, offered her a glimmer of hope and a path to better days.

Amidst her battle with CRPS, Tara Rae also embraced a subtle yet significant personal transformation.

She has adopted 'Tara Rae'—or sometimes, just 'Rae'—as her preferred name.

This change is more than just a preference; it's a profound reclaiming of her identity.

'It's part of a reclaiming of my whole self,' she explained, honouring the name her mother—who passed away when she was 16—gave her.

Her personal life also had its share of evolution.

Tara Rae reflected on her 15-year marriage with Australian poet and philosopher Berndt Sellheim, which recently ended this year.

They had a 13-year-old daughter, Sapphira.

Tara Rae challenged the notion that the end of a marriage equates to failure.

'Sometimes it's healthiest for certain bonds to be released,' she emphasised.

'I don't think relationships, certainly not of this type, end. They're just changing form. It's not the thing you plan, but it is sometimes the thing you have to adapt to.'

Tara Rae Moss's journey is a powerful reminder that behind a celebrity's public persona are real people facing their battles privately.

Her courage in sharing her story sheds light on the struggles faced by those living with chronic pain and the importance of seeking innovative treatments and embracing personal growth.

Tara is a very strong woman. I admire how she just gets on with it. Of course she is suffering but does not let it define who she is. Chronic pain comes in different forms and sometimes it is very hard to get on with it, but sometimes we have to accept this is ones cross to bare and try not let it stop us from living our best life.
Kind regards to all Vicki

The skin is the largest organ of the body. I have eczema in my ears drives me crazy. And l have burning 🥵 and dreadful itchy toes particularly at night and the itching is cruel. I have made between the toes bleed and bruised from scratching. The body is a strange thing at times.
I think stress attacks the weakest part of the body. I have shocking IBS which has just started the past few months. When l am worried the pain is dreadful.
I can have nights where my whole body starts itching due to stress. Like l say we all have a cross to bare. Just have to get on with it the best one can.
All the best Marcrj
Kind regards Vicki

You are very kind. For myself only l just put one foot in front of the other. There are not so bad days then there are bad days, but l just have to keep going because life is for living. And l accept this is my cross to bare. I do believe if you have a strong mind set it helps. We are all doing the best we can.
Again thank you it lifts my heart and makes me feel l can do anything.
Love to you Vicki
