You won't believe why the mayonnaise in this man's burger started 'moving'!

When ordering takeaway, customers are right to expect fresh looks, great taste, and a little bit of value to boot.

However, one man in New Zealand recently experienced the shock of his life after eating his burger and finding something squirming!

The unsightly add-on, which had yet to be identified, was pasty white and elongated. Yet, its most striking characteristic was that it pulsed as it tried to move around.

Sharing the story on social media, the man immediately had thousands of users responding–but no one knew what they were looking at.

Two veterinarians identified it as a tapeworm segment to a news outlet, but the mystery remains–how did this parasite come to be in the man’s meal?

Unfortunately, that was never addressed.

Still, thousands of commenters urged the man to name the eatery and take legal action over the find, saying he’d be entitled to a 'substantial amount of settlement money’.

The man replied that while he had sought an answer from the restaurant, he wouldn’t publicly name it because his friend works there, and he doesn’t want to see it shut down.

The man even laughed off the idea of taking his story to court, saying:

'New Zealand’s not like America. We just try to resolve, not go for millions over something like this.'

Other users were bemused by his response.

‘That's the dumbest thing I've heard today. Why waste a chance to get money from a company that gave you a PARASITE?’ a second added.

‘Tapeworms can kill you. I'd be getting paid,’ a third commented.

You can watch the video below. Please consider this our last warning, especially if you’re eating—it’s a bit triggering:

Healthdirect explains that tapeworms are parasites that live in the intestines of animals and can be passed onto humans through ingested contaminated meat or water. They then break through the wall of the intestines and can grow and live there for many years.

In rare cases, tapeworms can cause life-threatening damage, so it’s important to be aware of symptoms such as:
  • Nausea
  • Diarrhea
  • Abdominal pain
  • Loss of appetite
  • Weakness or tiredness
  • Vitamin and mineral deficiencies
  • Pieces of worm in faeces
If you believe you have become infected with tapeworm, get checked by your doctor immediately. A diagnosis for tapeworm infection can be done through stool and/or a blood test, followed by treatment through medication.
Key Takeaways

  • A New Zealand man found a wriggling organism, believed to be a segment of tapeworm, in his burger.
  • Despite others’ suggestions to sue the restaurant, the man said he would not do so as his friend works there, and he doesn't want to see it shut down.
  • Thousands of viewers expressed shock and disagreement with his decision, highlighting the danger posed by parasites like tapeworms.
  • Tapeworms are parasites living in the intestines of animals, which can infect humans by ingesting through contaminated meat or water. They may present little to no symptoms but can, in rare cases, cause life-threatening damage.
Do you think the man was right not taking this incident to court? What would you do if you were in this man's shoes? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!

Reminds me of the old joke, is that black olives in the food !! if they aren't moving then yes??

He should take the restaurant through the court system - but the question will undoubtedly arise - “can you prove it was in your food?” If he cannot prove that then he’s got Buckleys as the saying goes. It will become a case of if he cannot prove where the tapeworm actually came from then there is no case to answer, it will be thrown out of court, & ultimately he’ll be out of pocket himself.

I think he should name the place because it is a health concern and you have to think of others that get their food there. People should be able to make up their own minds if this is what happened. Then the place could have a safety check as well and if it is found ok then. I more problem but where also they get their food from in the first place.

He is thinking about his friend working there? What about the health of the public, especially kids? I would have taken the issue to the Health Department.
