Woolworths shopper faces backlash after complaining over a frustrating find in a pack of coleslaw he purchased — “First world problems”

A Woolworths customer has faced backlash on social media after sharing a complaint about finding a large chunk of white cabbage inside a pack of the supermarket's Four Seasons Coleslaw.

Taking his complaint to Facebook, the customer claimed that the pack — which usually comes with shredded cabbage — contained a wedge of the vegetable.

He wrote: “I recently purchased coleslaw from Woolworths and was very disappointed to find a large piece of cabbage inside, which was completely useless.”

While sharing his dilemma on social seemed to be the customer's way of venting his frustration, the post came under fire after a barrage of Facebook users called out the shopper, labelling his issue as a "first world problem".

One user wrote: “Buys a product that is predominantly cabbage, is disappointed when said product contains mainly cabbage.”

“A bag of coleslaw that has cabbage?! No way!" another sarcastically said.

Speaking of sarcasm, a number of users mockingly suggested a simple solution to the shopper's dilemma...

One comment read: “OMG get a knife and chop it up!”

“It literally says on the packaging that it contains cabbage. Just cut it up into smaller chunks and get on with the rest of your day,” another quipped.

A third added: “Ok here’s the thing, most kitchens have these things called knives."

“Now get a cutting board, place the big piece of cabbage on it, and slowly run that knife through it to make *gasp* smaller pieces.

“Then, add those smaller pieces back to the bag to be enjoyed.”

Another chimed in: “Just curious as to what the problem is. The label says it has white cabbage, there’s white cabbage there. Do you not possess a knife?”

It is understood that the piece of cabbage found in the distressed customer's pack does not meet Woolworths' standard specifications for cabbage in its coleslaw.

It is believed that the retailer is in direct contact with the shopper to resolve the issue.

What are your thoughts on this? Was the shopper right for complaining over the frustrating find or did the social media users make more sense?

The lady bought and paid for coleslaw and that what she wanted, why should she have to do woolworths work for them. I noticed the other day that the carrots, cut very large were on top of the cabbage, so couldn't see how that was cut. I decided not to purchase it as not what I wanted. Also woolworths. Standards are slowly dropping. I buy from the other supermarket where I get what I pay for.

Doesn't she realise that these items are mass produced by machines (cutting up and bagging).

Looks like the piece is from the very base of the cabbage so it is going to find its way into someone's bag. She just happened to be the unlucky one.

Wonder if she has thought of just slicing up cabbage, grating a carrot or two, slicing an onion and then emptying a bottle of coleslaw dressing. This does take time but it is better than the bagged stuff and you know what is in the coleslaw. Just a thought!

To be fair, the article states the consumer found "a large piece of cabbage, which was completely useless."
The photo depicts the core of a cabbage, similar to the core of a lettuce, or celery which most people would discard.
The core is usually very hard, tough and can taste bitter....ie not edible, useless.
It was not cabbage leaves.
This large core piece would have weighed a large proportion of the packet.

I can understand this problem. I buy coleslaw & expect it to be shredded, not big chunks of root matter that you can't even eat. I often have to discard big chunks that would break your teeth if eaten. When you buy prepacked goods, you want to be able to use the whole lot, not take out, or cut up big chunks.

Big deal, get a knife chop it up, you'd have it done faster than spending time writing and whining about it. Its life, it happens, *jeese*

The whole point of buying premise coleslaw is to NOT have to chop it yourself. You pay a considerable premium for this service. So the actual complaint really is not getting value for the product purchased. I've found the standard of Woolworths "fresh" foods increasingly disappointing so now go elsewhere for fruit and veges.

It actually looks like the core of the cabbage, and not useable.

There are so many other things in life to get riled up about without looking for problems. get over yourself and just chop it up yourself, it's not going to kill you. My kids would have killed for a piece of the stalk, to them it was the best part!!;)
