Woolworths shopper ‘disappointed’ after measuring pork buy!

Many of us love to save a bit of money each week by stocking up on meal-deal supermarket buys, which can save us a fortune over time.

Even better is when you find a bargain on a quality item you and the family enjoy, but what happened to this Woolies shopper is very worrying.

When her daughter went into Woolworths to pick up cooked pork for an early family dinner, she was surprised to find that it was half the size of the roasts they'd previously purchased!

Pork roasts are ready-made meals and are some of the staples for some Australian families. They are also cooked fresh in Woolworths stores across the country daily.

The post showed a tape measure alongside the product, showing that the roast was only nine centimetres long!

‘Asked my daughter to pick up a cooked pork for an early dinner,’ she said.

‘Disappointed with the size, they used to be twice this size! This still cost $21.’

It’s understood that Woolworths has specific requirements for its pork suppliers about the size and weight of products.

These requirements ensure that its products have as much consistency as possible regarding the size of each portion.

It’s also claimed that pork is a natural product, and size can vary, and some roasts can lose up to 30 per cent of their size during the cooking process.

Woolworths offers variable meat weight refunds for products that contain variable weight products. For instance, certain meat items are sold with a weight range, and the checkout cost is determined by the maximum weight within that range. If your item’s actual weight is less than the maximum weight paid for, you will receive a refund for the difference.

Customers are highly encouraged to contact their local Woolworths store if they are dissatisfied with their purchase.

Other shoppers have also been questioning their meat buys. Another Woolworths customer took to social media to express their concern after spotting a seemingly easy-to-miss detail on the label of a Woolworths Beef Topside Roast.

What was the detail? You can check the story here.

Problem is that a meat such as pork, beef and chickens can be/are injected with hormones or water to plump up the size. This of course evaporates when you cook the meat and it ends up considerably smaller than it started.

I cannot understand why this is allowed.

We used to buy the Roast Beef from Coles. Not anymore since they have “shrunk” the size. These supermarkets make millions of dollars profit each year yet they keep “upping” their prices.

Simples! ??? No not simple. It's not about moaning it's about people realising they're being ripped off . Lots of people don't have elsewhere to shop. Everything is starting to go down in size and getting more expensive. Does that mean people don't buy anything at all and don't eat. It's very easy to state it's simple Just don't shop there but something needs to be done. It's either people with their head stuck in the sand that think everything is simple or more money than they know what to do with. So easy for some to be so condescending.

$4.50 for a packet of shortbread biscuits from Woolworths bakery I think is a bit rich. Works out at 48 cents for a biscuit. Wow....I am going back to making my own.

I didn’t find Jest’s comment condescending at all. It’s quite apparent most people are aware of “shrinkflation” so it is what it is. Either don’t buy something you’re not happy about, or stop moaning. Yes, it’s that simple. 😄

I worked at a meat works years ago and know for a fact you are buying chickens that have been put in a vat of iced water to soak up water . For at least 24 hrs.
