Woolworths announces discount on hundreds of items to help struggling shoppers reduce their grocery bills

As the cost of living continues to soar, many Australians are finding it hard to make ends meet. Woolworths has responded to this issue by slashing the price of hundreds of everyday items, giving customers the chance to save on winter staple foods and products.

Among the items with discounted prices include Chicken Breast (was $14.50 now $14), Pork Leg Roast (was $11/kg now $9/kg), Cheer Cheese Slices (was $9.30 now $8.50), Odd Bunch Potatoes 4kg (was $5.90 now $4.50) and the WW Soup Range 300g (was $3 now $2.50).

Cold and flu medication, such as Dimetapp Kids Cough Plus Immune 200ml (was $19 now $15) and Betadine Anaesthetic Lozenges Berry 36pk (was $15 now $10.50), have also been reduced in price, making it more affordable for families during the flu season.

Paul Harker, the supermarket's Chief Commercial Officer, stated that the company recognises the cost-of-living pressures many families are currently facing and that they want to do their part to help, citing the move as "doing the right thing for our customers".

He said: “As we move to colder weather conditions, we know there’s a huge appetite for these winter warmers."

“We recognise that cost-of-living pressures are being felt by our customers and our team, and it’s important we continue to help them save each time they shop."

“We work really hard with our suppliers and we look at what our customers are buying at this time of the year and we look for all the ways that we can try and provide value."

Starting from Wednesday, May 4, shoppers will be able to find discounts on the Woolworths website and in-store.

Woolworths is also offering other ways for shoppers to lower their grocery bills, according to Mr Harker.

The supermarket giant also suggested a number of tips to score items at cheaper prices. Credit: Sunrise.

The company suggested purchasing fruits and vegetables seasonally as seasonal produce is usually cheaper than out-of-season produce.

The retailer also recommended that shoppers sign up for their Rewards program. This program will give you $10 to spend each time you earn 2000 points.

Mr Harker explained: “Not only are we reducing the prices of more than 300 winter staples, but we’re also introducing more than 650 own-brand products including flour, sugar, snack foods and other essential items to ‘Low Price’, which means customers can expect the prices of these products to remain consistent while on the Low Price program."

I might be a bit selfish but if Woolies are going to be offering these prices I will be putting off my shopping this week till after Thursday to take advantage of these cheaper prices. Every little bit of saving helps and unfortunately at this time we have to be selfish to survive. I'm trying to make savings in order to be able to donate more to help out the poor Ukrainians.:)

Fantastic!! Good on them!

Meanwhile Woollies have many thousands of products that could be reduced but will not be. This is simply an attempt to coax shoppers into the supermarkets to spend and be ripped off by these greedy retailers, who screw down farmers and other suppliers,
Watch Coles follow shortly.

Ha Ha & Ha.. 'slash' prices ??
Firstly.... there needs to be food available to buy ( empty shelves )
Our trolley cost an extra $60.00 this week.. same items (where possible) as last weeks shopping .
Am wondering also about these "home brand" items ?.. who really does manufacture such items anyway ?
Bob.

We are in Woolworth's Rewards program. In a recent program that required purchases of $30 in first week, $40 in 2nd week, and $50 in 3rd week to get the reward points, we did all that and the points have not been updated in our Rewards membership.
Unfortunately, Coles' reward program is more accurate with awarding points.

Why is 1 kg of chopped chicken breast (in a plastic pack) "reduced" to $14, when a whole chicken breast in their deli is $9.50/kg? People need to "shop around" in Woolworths itself, as well as in other places.
