There is a Facebook group called "Markdown addicts" or similar. They report when Woolies and Coles drop their prices dramatically.
For example near 5pm you can get a roast chicken for a dollar, and their meat, like steaks etc drop down to around 90% less.
One woman did a $300 shop and only paid about $120 for the lot.
I can't take advantage of it because I can no longer shop instore, I only do online shops, but you have to be there at the right times to grab a bargain and you never know when that is going to be, I guess it's just if you're lucky.

If you go to Brumbys/Bakers Delight at the end of the day they give away stuff, but there is usually a big turn out for that.
I used to go to a meat auction at my local butchers every Saturday when they had to get rid of stock that is still good.
They would put different meats into bags and you put your hand up to buy it at a fraction of the cost, I got many bags that way.
Once when I was there I put my hand up and the butcher pointed at me and said, "this goes to the woman who looks like she has a hangover" I don't know how he could tell but it was true 😂
