Woman battles incontinence after alleged medical error – and now she's suing her doctor

Get ready for a shocking story that will leave you on the edge of your seat!

Imagine the anticipation and excitement of welcoming a new addition to your family, only for it to turn into a nightmare.

That's exactly what happened to Julia, a 41-year-old woman from Germany, who sought medical care at a renowned clinic in July 2016.

Experiencing excruciating contractions during childbirth, Julia was given epidural anaesthesia to relieve the pain. However, she alleges that the dose was too high, causing the contractions to stop altogether.

Despite the successful birth of a healthy baby boy through forceps delivery, Julia's joy turned to anguish as she realised the permanent damage caused to her pelvic floor and nerves.

But that's not all — Julia also claims that the doctor forgot to empty her bladder, further contributing to the damage she suffered.

It's a devastating chain of events that has left her dealing with the aftermath of medical errors. The toll on her physical and emotional well-being has been immense, and now she's determined to hold her former doctor accountable for the pain and suffering she has endured.

'I no longer have a normal life,' Julia told a news source.

Despite the doctor's denial of the allegations, the legal battle continues. While the Bielefeld Regional Court did not find evidence of gross medical error and dismissed the forged records as irrelevant, the Higher Court has taken a different stance.

The Higher Court has acknowledged the likelihood of a missed bladder emptying during the procedure and criticised the lack of adequate information provided to Julia about the risks involved.

As a result, they have proposed a compensation of EUR 300,000 (AU$ 460,000) for Julia's suffering.

However, the saga is far from over. If a settlement is not reached, a new expert opinion will be commissioned to determine whether the anaesthesia was indeed overdosed. The stakes are high as Julia fights for the truth and seeks fair compensation for the harm she has endured.

In the meantime, the Bielefeld public prosecutor's office is also stepping in, investigating the doctor for bodily harm and attempted fraud.

Needless to say, Julia's life has been turned upside down since the birth of her baby. Dealing with the aftermath of the alleged medical error, she now faces the challenge of going to the toilet up to 100 times a day, suffering from acute sleep deprivation, and struggling to carry out everyday tasks.

She can no longer work and finds it difficult to even leave her house.

To make matters worse, Julia's two children also feel the impact of this medical emergency. A government-paid nanny often steps in to care for them when they want to go to the playground, highlighting the significant toll this situation has taken on Julia's ability to care for her children.

It's heart-wrenching to imagine the physical and emotional trauma Julia has endured. The impact on her daily life is immense, and the need for justice and compensation becomes even more urgent.

She deserves to be heard and to receive the rightful compensation for the pain and suffering she has experienced. As we follow Julia's story, we hope she will ultimately receive the justice she rightly deserves.

Different problem but was totally disabled due to medical mistakes, tried to sue but state restrictions made it impossible due to cost due to limited amount court could award being lower than fees

I had surgery late 2019 to remove a gallbladder, at my last appointment with surgeon before surgery he suggested I also remove my umbilical hernia but nothing was discussed our conversation lasted 2 minutes.

He removed my gallbladder and hernia then next morning said he had to put mesh in as hernia was worst than expected.

I needed to change dressing twice through my day at work

Over the next 9 months I was in pain , belly button had a major discharge plus very red. Surgeon kept putting me off until the last time I went to him in July 2020 he then said he would put me back in hospital and operate to see what was happening.

I then decided to seek another opion

The new surgeon put me on antibiotics I had many many courses of antibiotics, he then did a debridement in April 2021 to clean my belly out. I was in hospital 5 days

Still infection was there resulting in so much more antibiotics

Surgeons try not to remove mesh. But unfortunately May 2022 I was admitted to hospital. My surgeon ( not original Surgeon) had to

1 . Remove Mesh and found that original Surgeon had stitched and stapled the mesh to my bowel the large and small loops of my bowel.

2. I lost my whole umbilicus so now I don't have a belly button.

3. I lost alot of my abdominal wall and had to have alot of stitches put in to pull my abdominal muscles together. Resulting now in nerve pain

The original Surgeon had also put in recalled mesh that was recalled 3 years prior to original surgery. This mesh was recalled due to it sticking to organs

Apparently the surgeon had never got permission to remove hernia or explain the surgery and the procedure.

This is Negligence not in just one instance but 5

This surgeon has destroyed my life.
I can no longer work Or enjoy family events
I'm constantly in pain and very depressed.

I can't pick up my grandchildren

I get very very tired

I've been seeing a psychologist for 18 months.

I couldn't even begin to say how much money I have spent on medical.

1. Operations

2. Surgeons visits $100 a pop

3. Medication . Antibiotics, pain relief plus antidepressants

This surgeon shouldn't be operating on people at all

Thats the trouble with Doctors and surgeons have no accountability and they have gotten away with uneccesary treatment and malpractice for years because they only ever investigate themselves. Question a Doctor because most dont have the experience and training to look after a cockroach that alone a human being (trained yes, experience no). Too many mistakse, too many coverups. What should be brought out into the open is the mistakes they make, the people they harm and the deaths they cause through their incompetence, this should be open to the public so that you have a right to seek the best Doctor who is not being sued for incompetence or malpractice.

The claim of the German woman makes no sense at all. Oh well, she got a nice little payout for something that remains unproven!

No sympathy from me.

People who opt for epidural, for a vaginal birth, do so at their own risk.
Women often opt for it, because they don't want the pain of a normal birth.
I can't believe the court even considered taking her word, over the doctor's word. How the hell would she know what is the right dosage
What a load of rubbish.
I feel sorry for her doctor, as she has smeared her reputation.

Angry retired RN.

I re- read this and showed my daughter who is a nurse .

She pointed out when you are given an epidural it stops you from feeling the contractions, that is the whole point of an epidural .

Alot of women need forceps delivery if the epidural hasn't worked off .

The doctors don't empty the women's bladder , they may ask if they need to go to the toilet.

When a woman us given an epidural they are told of the rare consequences.

When you see a lawyer for a medical negligent case , they actually get ALL your medical reports including like 5 years back from your Gp , hospitals ect . This can take months. Then they send these off to a couple of their surgeons / specialists to get their opion . Then they send you off to a couple of other Specialists and then they decide if you have a case .
