Online shopping has become a favourite pastime for many of us, offering convenience and access to a vast array of products at our fingertips.
However, as we scour the internet for the best deals, we may question if our go-to retailers are doing everything possible to help us snag those coveted bargains.
Are they providing the best prices, discounts, and promotions to make our shopping experience worthwhile?
Fortunately for shoppers, retailer insight group Power Retail has taken on the arduous task of evaluating which retailers offer consumers the best value for their money.
Every year, Power Retail releases its list of the top 100 online retailers in Australia, ranking them according to their performance across various categories.
This year, the group's findings have revealed some surprising results…
In a remarkable turn of events, Kmart has surpassed Bunnings and secured the top spot on the prestigious Power Retail All-Star Bash's annual power list of Australia’s top 100 online retailers.
Woolworths and Chemist Warehouse followed closely behind, rising in the rankings and occupying the second and third place, respectively. Unfortunately, Bunnings, which had previously won twice the top department store category, dropped to fourth place.
The list also featured other popular retailers like JB HI-FI, Big W, Myer, Target, Coles, IKEA, Mecca and Cotton On, all ranking in the top 20.
Power Retail Head of Data David Fear said that Kmart impressively topped certain categories, which made it the number 1 retailer for 2022.
He explained: ‘This year, Kmart consistently ranked highest across categories of site performance, accessibility, payment and delivery options, traffic, and mobile app excellence, making them the most successful retailer in 2022.’
‘They have demonstrated a true dedication to mastering the mobile user experience and providing consumers with the most streamlined browsing and purchasing process.’
‘We look forward to seeing their growth and innovation in the coming year.’
Other category winners included Spotlight for Home and Decor Retailer, BCF for Best Sports and Outdoor Retailer, JB Hi-Fi for Best Electrical & Office Retailers, and Pet Circle for the top loyalty program category.
Power Retail developed a ranking methodology to create the Top 100, which assessed acquisition, conversion, fulfilment, and retention.
The ranking was based on various metrics, including the duration of the shopper's visit to the website, payment and delivery options, and mobile app performance.
According to Grant Arnott, the CEO of Global Marketplace, retailers are emphasising conversion as a significant area of focus.
He stated that this year, 86 per cent of the Top 100 retailers had incorporated product reviews on their websites, while only 42 per cent of those outside the Top 100 have done the same.
‘All of these factors contribute to customer conversion, as product reviews significantly impact consumer decision-making,’ Mr Arnott remarked.
‘Kmart showcased a detailed and progressive approach to conversion, which ultimately landed them the top spot and a high Net Promoter Score of 56.’
