Sharp metal parts everywhere - if you did something wrong, it hurt! Nowadays, people are cushioned, air-bagged, safety belted and there are no consequences for bad choices.

Not so much ON the car... but when I started driving there were still some traffic lights that weren't lights. They were like a clock that the arm rolled around on through the colours Red.. Amber and Green on the face so you could see when it was about to change colour. Also instead of Stop and Giveway signs, it was red and yellow flashing lights.

That brings back memories, in the late 50's we still had few of these around Melbourne. A couple were on the Nepean Hwy (Point Nepean Road back then) in Aspendale & Chelsea shopping centres. The chap I was working with actually installed those in his young working life. :p

... or even the headlight dipswitch on the floor.
As a kid I had a very important job. I used to sit in the middle on the bench seat and if we were ever driving at night Dad gave me the job of pressing the dipswitch when there was an oncoming car. I also had to press it again when the car had passed to put up the full beam.
