What hobbies are you trying out this 2025?

G’day, members! I haven’t talked to you since last year. 🤭 How are you starting off 2025? Me? I brushed off a long-forgotten hobby and booked myself a dance class. It’s been a couple of years since I last performed so I must admit, I’m a bit rusty. But, like with anything, it’s never too late to start again. What about you? Any hobbies you’re rediscovering lately or something new perhaps that you’re raring to try? Share them here—others might be inspired to do the same.

My wife suffered a stroke a few years ago and after being bored with jigsaw puzzle’s and tapestry she decided to turn her hand to candle making. She has been experimenting with different fragrances and waxes, also studying the art as much as possible to learn as much as she can about it. We now have a candle or two constantly burning at home and she also gives them away as gifts to family and friends, all of whom cherish them. It has been excellent rehabilitation for her. Anyone who has had a stroke will understand how important it is the turn your hand to something useful to re-establish your self-worth.

This is not new for me but I thought people might be interested in it. I live on a cattle station, I decided a few years, 7yrs ago, after my Mum passed, that I needed something to do in my down time. I have brain lesions, which leads to severe migraines and hand tremors. I needed something to occupy my mind and hands. So I had a go at beading. Yes those tiny little beads put on canvases.
To date I have done 4 for my little local school, 3 for the RSL, 1 for my Dr, 1 for a friend in the police force and had several bought from me. 1 going overseas to a beautiful artist and wonderful friend of mine.
My proudest one is with the RSL, took me 100days and over 200hours. It is 1 metre x 3/4 of a metre. This is one of the smaller ones I've done for them. It's the emblems of all the services including the Nurses with the Australian Forces Emblem centre.

I wrote a few children's books almost 20 years and put them in a cupboard and forgot about them. I recently brought them out and have decided to contact a publisher and illustrator to get opinions on whether I should publish them. I have also made enquires about taking a writing course.
I am also considering taking dance classes at the local library. Life looks good.

When my friend and I retired in recent years we took up glass mosaic once a week with another friend mentoring us.
Our day out being creative is an absolute delight and we treasure it greatly. We’ve made a number of glass on glass tables and other projects including presents for family.
