What does Valentine’s Day mean for you? 💗

Happy Valentine’s Day, members! 💗

Ah, love is in the air, and Cupid is busy shooting his arrows into the hearts of couples around the world. To be in love is one of life’s greatest joys, and today's the day to celebrate it! How are you all spending this special day? Whether you are celebrating this day with a special someone or enjoying some quiet time alone, we hope it is filled with love and happiness.

This day also serves to remind us of what love is and what it means to us. So, I'm curious - what does Valentine's Day mean to you? Is it a day to celebrate love and romance? Or perhaps it's just another commercialised holiday?

Valentine's Day can mean different things to different people, and I'm excited to hear about your experiences and perspectives. So, let's spread some love and start this discussion!

I have not had a special friend for over twenty years, due to back-to-back injuries for a while and their lengthy recovery periods. All is resolved now however, I do love my dear friends and I gave a block of chocolates to a much older dear friend yesterday and today, Valentines Day, I am going to gift a bunch of flours to a much younger friend in her mid-fifties.

I am thinking of gifting her with small pkts of coconut, tapioca, rice and self-raising (sigh) yes, I am a romantic at heart. However, I hold no illusions that the romance boat, sailed a while back...

Means nothing, it is another commercial event on the Calendar.

How about turning Vakentines day into a be kind to everyone day.

If you love someone you would do the romantic things like dinner out together or a movie through out the year and maybe a bunch of flowers or a potted plant that last awhile.

Sorry I think Valentines Day is so commercial that it isn't romantic.

Come Valentines day woman expect something on the day ..isn't it more Romantic when it's an unexpected moment

A potted plant, isn't that a euphemism for a person placed in a political seat that has no idea? (sic) humour.

I really couldn't help but comment about that (sigh) as it sure seems like there are a lot of potted plants around these days. Happy Valentine's Day one and all.

A celebration of an incident between gangsters in America back in the 1920s.
Yes- love is in the airđź’–

Just another northern hemisphere celebration of Nature that has been commercialised for monetary gains. When I lived in the UK this was the beginning of the bird's mating season. ie Spring. Nothing to do with humans. But no! someone found a way to make money out of it & human being human caught on to the idea. As a way to make some happy & some the reason for ridicule.

I read years ago that the love heart symbol for love, originated in Greece, where people at a particular ancient festive event, ingested a heart shaped leaf of a plant, that stirred arousal.

just another day, I walk a one-way street by myself, I always remember Valentine's Day etc but I get forgotten on birthday, Christmas and Valentine's Day, it's a "lonely life" even though I am not alone

Hello from Daiki san , well , you would have noticed by my name I am Japanese , and the honorific , san , tells you I am a male , just a few things on how words work in Japan . Velentines Day in my country of birth , is for BOYS ! yes that's right girls , you give US chocolates , even for male friends , as it is also a sign of friendship , as well as for the one you love , or secretly love , but all is not lost girls ! March 14th is your day , it is called White Day , and WE return the compliment to everyone we received chocolate from , and even a few secret admirers that we have . So there you have it people , it sort of levels the playing field but can get a little expensive , but it does not mean you have to go all out with the gift as a small token chocolate is enough , it's the thought that counts and that you were thinking of them on this day , as the gift comes from the heart , even for the friends and office colleague gifts . Trying to keep this short was a little difficult , so if you want to know the full story you could always Google it . I put a small one on my neighbour across the road last night on her doorstep with a little unsigned card , she is 90 something , and is now using a walker , but she loves my new companion dog , and comes out when we wait to cross the road and head past her unit for her daily walk to give her a pat ( bless her ) I know it is an effort but she does it almost every day . So she will never guess where it came from , but it will give her a smile . My dog's name is Mayu , which means , " Youthful Gentleness "and she is a Japanese Akita , just like Hachi . For a good read , google him or Hachiko in full , and get the real movie ( not the American copy ) through You Tube , but get the tissues ready before watching it , This is a true story and he lived for a little over 12 years . I'm not saying anthing about the body of the story as I do not want to spoil it for those who watch it but it is well worth a look , the colour version is english dubbed , so you do not have to be a fast reader but it will give you an insight into a wonderful breed of dog , their spirit and dedication to their owner . Please enjoy Valentine's Day and girls - you never know , you may receive something on March 14th from someone .
BTW , I just received a small box from a little Lieutenant I was teaching Japanese language to , and me her touring guide in preparation for her visit to Japan whilst on leave . I served the both the Royal , and Australian Navies , about the Falklands time , and that's how I came to see some of Australia , and eventually came to live in the beautiful " south island " of Australia when I finished my tours .
Sincerly ,
Ishikawa Daiki
( we have to put our Family name first , " it's the law " in Japan )

Valentine's day was also the day we got married 53 years ago. I am now celebrating it with my husband in heaven. We managed 41 years with him here on earth. I still miss him and haven't looked for anyone else.

Just show your love for the one you love. We don’t give chocolates or flowers to one another just a big kiss & card & a big, meaningful “ I love you”. Go on, don’t fill the commercial pockets to say I love you - just say & mean it to the one you really want to spend your life with! After all, flowers die in a few days, but love lasts forever.
