After a yacht race to Noumea, I was given the job to bring the boat back to Sydney. This was in the days of sailing by the stars and I had no idea how to use a sextant. The skipper said go out of the harbour(Noumea) turn right and keep sailing west and you will hit Australia. What he didn't take into account was the seven days of 35/40 knots right on the nose. We had the smallest foresail up and the main reefed right down. I was doing 8 hour shifts on the wheel as I was the most experienced on board. The others were return crew and consisted mainly of Saturday afternoon sailors. They all did their best and was I pleased to see the coast of Australia come over the horizon. I didn't get out of my wet gear until we hit Australia. Lived in it and slept in it.
Wow what an adventure 😍 ✨

I played netball till I was 69 yrs old and only stopped because I broke my wrist, otherwise I would still be playing.

Back in the late 1990s my husband and I took part in the Melbourne Bike Ride which entailed in part, cycling over the West Gate Bridge and on to Williamstown and back into the City. Not a regular cyclist, but to keep my husband company, I joined him that Sunday. I actually rode all the way up to the top of the Westgate without stopping! Most riders were stopping along the way. I not only surprised myself, but my husband as well. It’s a long ride up! Going down was so easy!

I look back now and feel it was an achievement giving birth to my 13 and raising them all to become beautiful people.
lt certainly was! l thought watching 5 especially when shopping was hard enough although l must say they knew how to behave. l love big families and good for you for doing a good job.
Just one question did you intend to have so many as it seems rather a lot ?. Don't answer if you don't want to l am just curious .

After the first I said no more , I couldn't handle the pain. Glad I forgot the pain

l don't know how l would have coped .l remember when they played up and l finally had some peace l would sink down into the chair to relax and l could feel all the tension leaving my body. You deserve a medal. l remember the pain my last one had to be turned it was agony

Moving a cement cover over the float of a trough. Heard a loud pop and in serious pain. Continued to work on getting the float to work. Saw a Dr 3wks later, when it was still painful. He sent me to a surgeon. Had stripped all my tendons from my shoulder and had a 6cm rip in my biceps muscle.
Could say I was out of work for a while after surgery. 🙄🥹

Hi my name is Salvatore (Sam). In my younger days I have achieved my goals and nearly reached my full dreams. As an Elite Sports person I achieved many accolades such as representing Australia in Junior World championship where I placed twice 7th in the world and came 11th in the Senior world championships in Weightlifting. I also competed in Europe. My finest achievement was winning gold at the 1978 Commonwealth Games where I had to brake 2 Commonwealth Records. My disappointment was injuring my shoulder at the Olympic trials in 1980 against America for the 1980 Olympic Games and missed out going to Moscow Olympics due to injury. I can also say that I coached many athletes in weightlifting and soccer as a volunteer and never received any money for my services. I am a life member of Weightlifting WA and Life Member of Commonwealth Games Australia WA Division. I am currently the President of Commonwealth Games WA Division for the past 10 years. In 2023 I was also inducted into the Walk of Fame by City of Joondalup one of the best suburbs to live in WA. You can see the details in the Perth Now Blog below by going to the link below. Also if you search my name there is more information.
