What’s the best excuse you’ve ever used to get out of something you didn’t want to do?

We’ve all been there. Sometimes it’s a tiny fib. Sometimes it’s a full performance with props and dramatic coughing. No judgment here. (I once faked a limp to get out of a gym class.)

Well there was the time I rushed into a staff meeting twenty minutes late. Believe me I didn’t want to be there.
I had to drop my daughter to preschool but was stuck behind a huge road machine being carried on an even larger truck as I approached the traffic lights.
As I had to turn left after the lights, I couldn’t overtake and since every other car in the world was in the right lane I was stuck. It did move, slowly. The machine had the word ‘caterpillar’ in big black letters ( you can see where this is going).
“Sorry I’m late, I was stuck behind a giant caterpillar!” I announced loudly to the hushed room.

As a school girl l hated the gym lessons and jumping over that stupid wooden horse so many a time l would forge a letter from my mother saying l was sick. They never found out because my mother would never give us excuse notes so they couldn't compare the writing and l could make mine different.

I had a staff member ring in for her shift one afternoon.
Her Sorry I can't come in, my cat died, and I am too upset.
Me Ok, I understand, see you tomorrow.
A few weeks went by, and the same thing happened again
Her Sorry I can't come in, my cat died, and I am too upset.
Me I thought your cat had died a few weeks ago
Her Yes it did, this is my other cat, it must have had the same problem.
Me Sorry to hear that, see you tomorrow.

When this happened the third time, I asked how many cats you have, she said sorry, did I say cat, I meant my grandmother.
She was a casual, I never called her or placed her on the roster again, I have never heard such a disgusting lie before.

I rang the office to let my boss know I would be late coming into work that morning because I had to take my cat to the vet urgently. When I arrived my boss said, "I thought you could have dreamt up a better excuse that that". My reason for being late was genuine. Sometimes truth doesn't pay .

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

There was a particular sports mistress at school I had a mutual dislike with, so when I knew I was going to be in her group I used a half splint that I had when I sprained my wrist years earlier, and I used to bandage it onto my wrist and say that it was playing up again.
