WATCH: Princess of Wales praised for handling of heckler in Northern Ireland visit
Visits from members of the Royal Family are generally welcomed by long queues and flushed faces of gratitude if anyone is lucky enough to have a brief interaction with them.
‘Honoured to meet you,’ one might say in between bouts of disbelief and joy.
One Irish woman, though, had more to tell Kate Middleton, Princess of Wales, who made a momentous first visit to Carrickfergus, a town due north of Belfast, Ireland with her husband Prince William, the Prince of Wales.
Princess Kate and Prince William were made Baroness and Baron of the town by then-Queen Elizabeth II in 2011 when they married.
In a short clip uploaded to Reddit by a user, Princess Kate — a vision in light blue — is seen shaking hands with smiling locals and offering short greetings.
Reports say spectators numbering around 3,000 gathered to see the royal couple.
She then makes it to a woman clad in green who she clasps hands with and is promptly told: 'Nice to meet you but it would be better if it was when you were in your own country.'

For her part, Princess Kate responded with a smile and did not address the woman’s remark.
‘Ireland belongs to the Irish,’ the woman added as the royal moved on.
Unsurprisingly, the woman’s actions were met with criticism from those who found the exchange cringeworthy and downright rude.
‘I mean why do that pointless gesture…Kate handled it well,’ one person said on Twitter.
Another added on Reddit: ‘obnoxious stunt….gave her a strong grip there a bit much. I don't like the monarchy or anything it stands for.. a load of bollocks tbh but that’s a cheap shot and does the nationalists no favours.’
‘Absolute f****** moron. Just couldn't wait to get up out of bed this morning and make a right d*** out of herself,’ said another.
Some, however, think the woman was right in her actions.
'She’s peacefully expressing an opinion to a figurehead of an organisation that was complicit in atrocities that most likely affected herself or her family and friends in ways that you or I can’t fathom. She is probably still left with mental scars of things she witnessed so it’s perfectly valid what she’s saying,' one Reddit user responded.
‘Love the woman. Green Ireland belongs to the Irish... Scotland belongs to the Scots and Wales belongs to the Welsh, what's missing in all this...England has no right to rule over them,’ wrote another on Twitter.
The royal couple’s visit comes in the wake of Queen Elizabeth II’s death, King Charles III’s ascension to the British throne, and reports of uncertainty among rival political groups in Northern Ireland.
The departed Queen is remembered in part for her actions to mend strained ties with Ireland, Britain’s first colony and whose north is still part of the United Kingdom, and many are curious as to whether her son will follow in her footsteps.
Nationalist Sinn Fein also captured the most seats in Northern Ireland’s legislature in the May 5 elections — a development some view to be a shift towards a united Ireland.
Do you think the woman was right to address Princess Kate the way she did?
How should the public and political figures treat incidents such as this?
