Warning: A popular beer and a piece of sporting equipment are being recalled over safety risks

If you've recently purchased Watermelon Sour Beer from Your Mates Brewing Co, you should know that the company has issued a recall of several batches of this product due to the possibility of secondary fermentation.

This unwanted process can cause excess carbonation and alcohol levels, which could make the beer unsafe to drink and could potentially lead to illness or injury if consumed.

Affected cans of this beer were sold both online across the country and pubs. Specifically, you'll want to look out for the 375ml cans that display a best-before date of November 7, 2023.

If you have any cans from this batch, do not consume them under any circumstances.

Instead, you should contact Your Mates Brewing Co as soon as possible to arrange for the safe disposal of the product and reimbursement for your purchase. You can reach the company at 07 5329 4733.

It's important to dispose of the product safely to avoid any harm to people, pets, or the environment.

Fermentation is a natural process that creates carbonation and alcohol in beer, but secondary fermentation can be problematic. This type of fermentation happens when the yeast in the beer continues to convert sugars into alcohol and carbon dioxide after the initial fermentation process has stopped.

This can result in a beer that's over-carbonated and higher in alcohol content than intended, which can be dangerous if consumed.

If you have any Watermelon Sour Beer from Your Mates Brewing Co that matches the affected batches and best-before date, you should contact the company immediately.

While it's unfortunate that this recall had to occur, it's crucial to prioritise your health and safety above all else when it comes to food and drink products.

In addition to the Watermelon Sour Beer recall, there is another recent recall.

Giro, a well-known brand that produces sports equipment, has issued a recall for their Merit bike helmets due to a potentially dangerous defect.

The retention straps on some of these helmets may not be properly attached, which could cause the helmet to come off during a crash, leading to serious injury or even death.

The faulty helmets do not meet the mandatory standard for bicycle helmets, so consumers who have purchased one should stop using it immediately and return it to the place of purchase for a replacement.

The adult helmet was sold in multiple colours and was available for purchase nationally and online between October 1, 2021, and January 27, 2023.

If you're unsure whether your Giro Merit bike helmet is affected by this recall, you can check the list of traders provided at this link.

For more information about the recall and how to proceed if you have an affected helmet, you can contact Sheppard Cycles at [email protected] or by phone at 1300 883 305.
Key Takeaways

  • This past week, Your Mates Brewing Co. issued a nationwide recall for cans of their Watermelon Sour Beer.
  • This is due to secondary fermentation occasionally occurring with the beer, meaning it contains excessive alcohol and carbonation levels that could be harmful to consume.
  • A piece of sporting equipment was also recently recalled due to the potential risk of injury by head trauma.
  • The Merit bike helmet by Giro reportedly has issues with its straps not being securely attached to the helmet.
It's always important to take recall notices seriously, especially when it comes to sports equipment that is designed to protect you during physical activity.

While it can be frustrating to have to return a product, it's important to prioritise your safety and follow the manufacturer's instructions to ensure that you have a safe and effective product.

And that’s that – two important recalls to be aware of! Thank you for reading, and we hope you found the information here in this article helpful. As always, stay safe and take care!

Had a carton of this beer, all gone now though we drunk the lot, no side effects only that 2 or 3 off the blokes were quite a bit jollier than usual and a nicer than usual hangover.
The Tinman thanks us for all the empty tinnies too.
