In a video posted on social media, Dr Daniel Nye, who's a chiropractor at Discover Chiropractic, shared a 10-minute exercise meant to improve posture.

The video showed Dr Nye demonstrating the technique on a woman with a hunched back as she used her cell phone.

To do the exercise, simply lie on the floor with your feet propped up on a chair, roll up a towel to put behind your head, and spread your hands out on the floor. Then, stay in this position for 10 minutes every day, and you should see an improvement in your posture over time.

In fact, this technique is so simple that it's been praised by thousands of viewers, with one saying, ‘Who else straightened their back instantly?'

Another one said: 'Who else immediately changed their posture the moment they saw this?'


But this isn't just a case of making ourselves look better—poor posture can lead to pain and other lasting health consequences.

A study by the American Chiropractic Association (ACA) discovered that as many as one in ten people suffer from disabilities, pain and other chronic conditions caused by poor posture.

The most common of these characters are hours spent staring at a computer desk, too much time on our smartphones, and lounging around on the couch.

When we are slouching, the body is subject to increased abdominal pressure, which can lead to stress incontinence. Excess slouching also weakens the spine, making it more prone to injury.

A study conducted by San Francisco State University suggested that prolonged slouching could also be having an effect on our mental health, too.

The research followed a group of students who were asked to think about both positive and negative memories twice; once while sitting up straight and then again while slumped over.


Data showed that those who were slumped over were more likely to recall negative experiences easily, suggesting that bad posture has a direct effect on our emotional states.

Totally agree with this article. I have been seeing a remedial masseur who has given me exercises. These are slowly straightening my dowagers hump and removing pain in my upper arms. This problem has been here for many years and unfortunately my previous therapists have not been looking at the whole body.
