Want a cosier, fluffier bed this winter? Try these five simple tips!

As winter approaches, it's time to snuggle up and get cosy in a warm, luxurious bed. Whether you're into thrilling novels, classic movies, or the soothing sound of a crackling fire, there's nothing quite like settling in for a cosy night's sleep.

And if you're someone who's looking to turn your bedroom into a five-star hotel experience, you're in luck! We've got some fantastic news: there are five simple tips to making your bed feel fluffy and inviting this winter — without breaking the bank, of course.

Without further ado, here are her tips:

1. Breathe life into your mattress

Mama Mila's first suggestion is to strip the sheets and let your mattress breathe for about an hour. This step not only helps deodorise your mattress but also resets your foundation, ensuring a fresh and inviting surface to snuggle into. This can easily be incorporated into your washing routine. Why not enjoy a cuppa before remaking your bed?

2. Achieve luxurious linens with bicarb soda

Have you ever wished for a touch of extravagance in your bedding? Mama Mila recommends adding half a cup of bicarb soda to your washing machine when laundering your sheets. This pantry staple not only brightens the fabric but also softens, keeping you comfy throughout winter.

3. Kiss those creases goodbye

Pesky wrinkles on freshly laundered sheets can put a damper on your bedtime retreat. To banish those crinkles without breaking out the iron, Mama Mila encourages spritzing a light mist of water over your sheets as you tuck them in, making your bed look neat and crisp with minimal effort.

4. Pillows on cloud nine

Who doesn't love an ultra-plush pillow? Our resourceful guru suggests popping your pillows into the dryer along with a tennis ball for five minutes, which will make them fluffy and luxuriously soft, perfect for cradling your head as you drift off to sleep. Of course, we recommend you read the label on your pillow first, as not all kinds will be suitable for the dryer.

5. Relax in style

Finally, transform your bed into an inviting space by placing a throw blanket beneath the duvet. This extra layer gives your bedding a cosy, elevated appearance. Plus, it will keep you extra warm as you sleep.

It's no surprise that Mama Mila's fans were thrilled to learn her invaluable tips! In fact, some of them were so excited that they had a few more questions for the cleaning and organising guru.

One curious follower asked whether they could substitute tennis balls with dryer balls to achieve the same level of fluffiness. Mama Mila happily confirmed that dryer balls would work just as well and even suggested using three of them to maximise fluffiness.

Another eager fan had concerns about using bicarb soda on coloured sheets versus white ones. Mama Mila came to the rescue once again, reassuring them that this miracle powder works wonders on sheets of all hues, brightening and softening them with equal effectiveness.

Key Takeaways

  • Give your mattress a breath of fresh air by stripping the sheets and letting it breathe for an hour before remaking your bed.
  • Add half a cup of bicarb soda to your washing machine when laundering your sheets to brighten and soften them, ensuring comfort and warmth during winter.
  • Spritz a light mist of water over your sheets as you tuck them in to banish wrinkles and achieve a neat and crisp bed without ironing.
  • Pop your pillows into the dryer along with a tennis ball or dryer balls for a few minutes to make them fluffy and luxuriously soft.
  • Make your bed more inviting by placing a throw blanket beneath the duvet, adding a layer of cosiness.

There you have it! Now that you're equipped with these five easy tips to enhance the comfort of your bed, it's time to roll up your sleeves and get started.

I have been doing this for years I don’t have a dryer but fluff my pillows ,I get bad leg cramps so have cork coasters under my bottom sheet ,it helps stop the cramping ,putting my electric blanket on 3 to warm my bed ,I am snug an warm for the night

I have just bought a weighted blanket. It's 7Kg and it has taken a couple of weeks to get used to but the first cold night with the throw on top of it was just right. They are not warm on their own.

After a hip flask of Scotch I don't give a Bugger?

Warm winter sheets, blankets, doonas and I purchased a heavy doona from Aldi two years ago and it really keeps the bed warm and snug. No need for electric blankets.

I also purchased the Coral Jacquard Blankets Double/Queen from Kmart and they use to be $18 but now $22. Throw these over the legs and no heater needed. They come in grey, dark navy blue and white. The cats got the grey ones and they are warm and snug. Dark navy for me.

It will be another year of no heater and instead using these blankets. These are amazingly warm. At first I didn't think it was possible but I'm delighted to have the warmth at $zero cost.

I always spray my mattress with glen 20 and let it air at least 3-4 hours every time I wash the sheets and mattress protector. We only use cotton sheets due to my husbands asthma, no electric blanket, just a fleece blanket from big w, very soft, lightweight and warm. On really cold nights we pull up the lightly padded bedspread. With our body heat from snuggling up close to each other we don’t need any more bedding even on nights where the outside temperature drops below zero.
