Viral video reveals the customer habits that Woolworths employees find 'infuriating'

But have you ever stopped to consider what it must be like for the people working in the store?

Recently, Woolworths staff have released a video highlighting the customer habits that most frustrate them.


The video from a Melbourne store has gone viral, with over 500,000 views on social media. The footage features staff members role-playing customers in real-life scenarios they have encountered while working.

Examples included customers asking for help in the self-checkout area but not moving out of the way so the employee could look at the screen.

Other habits featured in the video were leaving their green baskets out in the self-checkout area instead of putting them back, clicking at employees for their attention, asking for 'extra' Disney collectable cards, and putting a basket with products on the conveyer belt, expecting the employee to unpack them.


The staff also reenacted scenarios where a customer would ask an employee with a badge and uniform if they work at the store or a customer asking for help finding a specific product that is right in front of them.

The video also tackled the remarks shoppers liked to make to the employees, like ‘You look bored, I can give you something to do’ or ‘Oh, it's not scanning, must be free then’.

The video, now deleted on social media, received positive reactions from other supermarket workers, with one claiming that it was ‘the most relatable thing ever’.


‘I hate baskets on the conveyor belt, I just pick the basket up and tip the items onto the belt,’ another worker said.

One Coles employee admitted that the scenarios ‘happen more than you'd think’.

‘The “you look bored” thing is the most infuriating thing after finally getting through the never-ending long line and feeling like you can finally relax,’ a fourth person wrote.

Some customers also commented on the video. While many admitted that they don’t put the baskets back, some believed it shouldn’t be their responsibility.

‘We’re already scanning our own groceries, I think you guys can put the baskets back,’ a shopper claimed.


Others pointed out that this is an opportunity for customers to make a similar video from their perspective.

‘We need a video from the other perspective, like the staff in self-serve ignoring customers because they are chatting to a friend, etc.," one person suggested.

‘From a customer's point of view, when you ask about a product, and they just shrug at you,’ another frustrated shopper said.

Woolworths has yet to release a statement about the video, but they stated they were 'following up with the store involved’.

Bring back the good old days when we had proper service in shops and didn't have to struggle with packing our own groceries ! Things haven't changed for the better that's for sure. No wonder everyone is angry these days, nothing is easy anymore.
The way the world is today has turned some people into selfish, violent and greedy humans who lack any respect for others!!

As long as you're willing to pay for the extra wages that would involve. It's a bit like skin moisturiser, (seen many an example of people buying this stuff and wonder if they'd just started to use or they were the before face) hard to prove it actually works as it is hard to prove prices are lower as a result of self serve checkouts.

Seems these employees have no sense of humour. I am guilty of making some of the comments listed but always with a smile & I hope that this interaction with the cashier is taken the same way it is given.

The supermarkets keep cutting services (more self scan/fewer manned checkouts/bags that are chargeable).
