Ah, Vicks VapoRub - my mother’s go-to remedy for cold or congestion. As a child, whenever I got sick, my mother immediately rubbed it on my chest, back, and neck. Here's an important safety tip:
When dating some-one new.
Pop on a condom, then a good smear of Vicks VapoRub, then a second condom.
That way if the condom breaks, one of you is certainly gonna know about it.

I heard this gets rid of a cough (jury’s still out on that) but not if you feel a cold coming on. Will definitely give it a try!

I still use it today on my chest if I have a cold, also I use the inhalers if my nose is partly or fully blocked.

I did this to my grand daughter when she was 2. It did work, stopped coughing during night, but it was hard to put on as it tickled her feet, and we were both laughing in the end. Dab a bit on the pillow too, helps with breathing at night. Love Vicks !!!!

I have always wondered whether or not I am the only person who cannot tolerate this stuff. When my mother used to rub it on my chest if I had a cold I became breathless and uncomfortable. Did this happen to anyone else?

Well at least you survived.. lol .. yuck.. my mum would roll balls of butter in sugar and make my swallow them, when I had a sore throat..

Tastes OK, didn't do us any harm and I still have it ocassionally when needed.

Good old Vick’s, mum used to rub it on all of us in the colder weather, even if we didn’t have a cold or blocked nose, just in case we needed it through the night. I used it on my children and grandchildren and still use it myself today. It also makes a good rub for aches and pains. Love the smell, so many memories of a lifetime.
