Unlock a $500 bonus for your household expenses—find out if you're eligible!

In the face of rising living costs, many are feeling the pinch, particularly when it comes to essential services like electricity.

With prices having soared by 30-40 per cent over the past two years, despite a drop in wholesale prices, the financial strain on households is palpable.

But there's a glimmer of hope for those feeling the weight of their power bills.

The New South Wales government recognised the need for support and is offering a helping hand in the form of a $500 lump sum payment, alongside an energy rebate of nearly $200 for eligible families.

This initiative is part of a broader effort to alleviate the cost of living pressures that thousands of households are facing.

For those on the Family Tax Benefit, this could be a much-needed reprieve.

However, it's crucial to act swiftly as the clock is ticking; applications will only be accepted until June 16 of this year.

Missing out on this opportunity could mean forgoing essential financial assistance that could ease the burden of your household expenses.

The Family Energy Rebate, specifically designed to assist households with dependent children who receive the Family Tax Benefit from the Commonwealth Department of Human Services, is a step towards making energy bills more manageable.

Eligible applicants can claim a $180 energy rebate for the 2023-2024 financial year, which can make a significant difference in annual expenses.

Moreover, the one-off $500 National Energy Bill Relief Household Payment is an additional boon that comes as a lump sum, providing further relief.

However, it's important to note that this extra payment is contingent on a successful application for the NSW Family Energy Rebate. It is only available to those who haven't already received the National Energy Bill Relief Household Payment.

To be eligible for this rebate, you must reside in New South Wales and meet certain criteria.

You will need to provide a confirmation letter from Services Australia that confirms your Family Tax Benefit has been finalised for the last financial year.

Additionally, your Services Australia Customer Reference Number and your energy account details are required when lodging your application.

The NSW government has indicated that processing applications can take between four to six weeks, so it's advisable to apply sooner rather than later to avoid any delays in receiving your rebate.

For those who are keen to take advantage of this offer, you can apply through the official government channels.

We understand that navigating government websites and applications can sometimes be daunting, so don't hesitate to ask for help from family members or community services if you need assistance with your application.

The Old Age Pension is below official poverty level? Why?

I suppose it is to help politicians buy footie stadiums for the AFL during an election year. Boganism rules!

Why is each state different I used to think Australia was one country , oh boy was I wrong !
Different laws different schooling different medical different pricing different governments different everything!
Bloody stupid and damn costly to boot!
Australia is STILL one country..always has been always will. Having States..not ideal, but imagine if a Federal Government controlled our entire land..be a nightmare. You're right though...ego's in play with each Premier. One example..when rail lines installed...different GUAGES at borders..! And the decision's made by our outstanding ,elected, politicians (back in the day !!)

If we got rid of state governments and only ad federal and local, think of the money savings. The savings could help everyone. This will never happen as politicians would lose places to climb the greasy pole.

Definitely WA especially Seniors should get a rebate. Come on WA government get on the band wagon, we are hurting too.
I definitely agree, W.A. always misses out on benefits, and we pay more for everything. They say it's the distance between us and the Eastern states, yet ships pass our ports on their way to the East.

Yep and in Victoria - seniors pay as well, it wont be long and we will have to pay the Victorian Government for the " privilege " of living in this crap state"
You already are paying for the privilege of living there with all the taxes that are paid without even thinking about it.

We have scrimped and saved and worked tirelessly since we arrived in this country 25 years ago. We have never received a cent from the government and Now we are retired and still don’t even get this energy boost. We just never seem to get a break.

NSW Seniors do get free registration for their motor vehicle, hence we have to have a pink slip, which covers the vehicle being regisgtered and roadworthy which costs about $45 per year and a CPT Green Slip which costs $300 - $450 per year, depending on which suburb you reside in and how your car is protected overnight and during the day eg. garaged, out in the open or under a makeshift carport, so it does not classify as COMPLETELY FREE motor vehicle registration per year!
