Unlock a $500 bonus for your household expenses—find out if you're eligible!

In the face of rising living costs, many are feeling the pinch, particularly when it comes to essential services like electricity.

With prices having soared by 30-40 per cent over the past two years, despite a drop in wholesale prices, the financial strain on households is palpable.

But there's a glimmer of hope for those feeling the weight of their power bills.

The New South Wales government recognised the need for support and is offering a helping hand in the form of a $500 lump sum payment, alongside an energy rebate of nearly $200 for eligible families.

This initiative is part of a broader effort to alleviate the cost of living pressures that thousands of households are facing.

For those on the Family Tax Benefit, this could be a much-needed reprieve.

However, it's crucial to act swiftly as the clock is ticking; applications will only be accepted until June 16 of this year.

Missing out on this opportunity could mean forgoing essential financial assistance that could ease the burden of your household expenses.

The Family Energy Rebate, specifically designed to assist households with dependent children who receive the Family Tax Benefit from the Commonwealth Department of Human Services, is a step towards making energy bills more manageable.

Eligible applicants can claim a $180 energy rebate for the 2023-2024 financial year, which can make a significant difference in annual expenses.

Moreover, the one-off $500 National Energy Bill Relief Household Payment is an additional boon that comes as a lump sum, providing further relief.

However, it's important to note that this extra payment is contingent on a successful application for the NSW Family Energy Rebate. It is only available to those who haven't already received the National Energy Bill Relief Household Payment.

To be eligible for this rebate, you must reside in New South Wales and meet certain criteria.

You will need to provide a confirmation letter from Services Australia that confirms your Family Tax Benefit has been finalised for the last financial year.

Additionally, your Services Australia Customer Reference Number and your energy account details are required when lodging your application.

The NSW government has indicated that processing applications can take between four to six weeks, so it's advisable to apply sooner rather than later to avoid any delays in receiving your rebate.

For those who are keen to take advantage of this offer, you can apply through the official government channels.

We understand that navigating government websites and applications can sometimes be daunting, so don't hesitate to ask for help from family members or community services if you need assistance with your application.

To those who complain about it only being NSW. Bear in mind this is an initiative of the NSW Government, not the Commonwealth Government. Your State is welcome to introduce their own initiative so hop on the bandwagon and encourage them to do so. If you're a pensioner without dependent children, tough titties. You miss out again.

Hopefully anyone who qualifies for this assistance finds out about it in time to register. There should be a letter or email notification sent out by services Australia to everyone in NSW who receives family tax benefit. Wouldn’t be too hard to do as would just be a computer generated notification. But then everyone eligible would be able to apply, probably the government is hoping by people having to find out about it for themselves they will save heaps of money as a lot of people won’t know about it and/or the application process will be so complicated people will just give up.

Can't grumble in Tasmania. The Liberal State Government is providing Taswegians with an $750 000 000 AFL footie stadium at we taxpayers' expense. Of course, no new hospitals or anything else socially useful, such as more nurses and doctors to run said non-existent new hospital.

And what about aged pensioners and the disabled? So we dont need help too? I'd like to see them giving more to those in dire need. No one knows the struggles these people have unless you are part of it, not only with the regular household bills and groceries but also with the many medications, some need to take. And a lot of the time the meds are forgone in favour of food. Factor that into the equation and they're worse off than anyone... It's way beyond time for those in that category. Its unjust and unfair.
