Two brilliant tricks to turn leftover wrapping paper into stunning gift decorations!

We love a genius recycling trick over here at the SDC – and this one (or rather, two) is no exception!

This crafty idea comes from Melbourne mum and style guru, Chantel Mila, who goes by the handle Mama Mila on social media. She recently shared a tutorial showing how leftover wrapping paper can be transformed into a beautiful decoration for gifts – and it’s surprisingly easy!

Instead of throwing away your off-cut wrapping paper after a long afternoon of Christmas gift wrapping, Mama Mila’s trick will help you save money in the long run and reduce your waste at the same time.

‘Don’t throw away your leftover paper this Christmas,’ Mama Mila advised when she uploaded the TikTok tutorial. ‘This trick is such a simple way to reduce waste and add a beautiful addition to your gifts.’

Every great present deserves the perfect accompaniment - the ideal decoration to add something truly special.

Of course, there are plenty of options out there (including those beautiful pre-made ribbons and bows), but for those of us who want to use something a little more personal and unique, then why not try making our own?

With the help of Mama Mila, you can achieve just that with her waste-free geometrical flower and gift-wrap bow tutorials.

Wrapping paper flower

For the flower gift decor, here’s what you need to do: First, take a square-shaped piece of wrapping paper and fold it into quarters. Cut a few long slits towards the centre and place a piece of double-sided tape in the middle of the paper. Then, bring the four corners inward, and you'll have a beautiful geometric flower!

Wrapping paper bow

As for the bow, you’ll need horizontally-shaped paper. Fold it in half and cut it into a fish-like shape. Then, add two slits on each side and connect them together. Finish everything off into a bow by wrapping a piece of paper around the middle.

The tricks were massive hits with fellow DIYers all around the world, too!

‘Holy moly, this is incredible!’ one woman wrote in the comments, with another chiming in and saying, ‘Great idea! Can’t wait to try it.’

This is such a brilliant and simple way to reduce not only the amount of plastic waste during the holiday season but also the amount of waste paper that we usually just throw out once the holidays are over.

So members, if you need to spruce up your gifts with something special, look no further than your leftover wrapping paper. It's the perfect way to cut down on costs, add a little pizazz, and reduce your waste.

Give these a go!

Hey there! I just stumbled across your post and wanted to say thanks for sharing this awesome life hack. Now, I can wrap gifts for my family and friends in a more unique and sustainable way. I'm definitely going to give the wrapping paper flower and gift-wrap bow tutorials a try! Speaking of gifts, I'm thinking of getting my friend Custom bobbleheads from photo as a present. Have you ever heard of those? They're super cute and customizable - you just send in a photo, and they make a little bobblehead figure that looks just like the person! I think it would be a fun and personalized gift. But I would like to hear your feedback.
