Traveller’s shocking bag act caught on camera: Outrageous or clever? You decide!

We've all probably experienced the stress of trying to fit our luggage within the strict carry-on limits when flying.

However, one woman’s actions have caused quite the debate online after she was caught on camera sneaking extra bags on a flight.

The travel etiquette debate has been reignited after a woman was caught on camera sneaking extra bags onto a plane.

Although it’s rare, some people do come up with ways to get around the strict carry-on luggage requirements.

However, this sneaky act was labelled ‘unacceptable’ by many after being captured carrying multiple bags onboard a flight without paying the fees.

A man named Kyle Mark shared the woman’s ‘bold’ move on social media after spotting her while they were both getting ready to board the plane.

In the footage, she showed the passenger dragging her luggage with a red jacket draped over the entire suitcase in an attempt to disguise the stack of bags underneath.

‘I know this woman had bags hidden behind that jacket. But she was bold, and she was confident and got them on, in addition to (the one piece that is allowed),’ Kyle said in the video.

And while Kyle was impressed with the woman’s act, describing her as ‘fiscally responsible’ and his ‘hero’, others disagreed.

‘Nope! Unacceptable! Now someone else who legit only has one carry-on is going to have to check it at the gate because of her rude a**,’ one said.

Another stated: ‘Except she scammed other passengers out of bin (overhead locker) space.’

Someone else agreed and said they’d love her even more if she didn’t have to ‘inconvenience the other 200 persons on board’.

A fourth added: ‘It’s always these kinds of people who also refuse to keep their personal items below the seat and fill a whole row of overhead compartments.’

While someone else wrote: ‘What are you people hauling with you on every flight? Why would you need to pack that much stuff as a carry-on?’

Others jumped to the woman’s defence, with one saying their ‘lips are sealed’ so long as they’re still able to put their bags in the overhead bin.

‘I love everything about this, and I would do the same,’ another replied.

This isn’t the first time someone has come up with an unusual method to sneak extra luggage onboard a plane without paying.

In a post uploaded to social media, someone who goes by @/freiavi showed how she removed the insides of her travel pillow and filled it with extra clothing.

‘POV (point-of-view): you’ve just booked a Ryanair flight without wanting to pay for extra luggage,’ she captioned.

In the clip, she showed how she took the pillow through airport security and onto the plane, then once she arrived at her destination’s hotel, she dumped the contents on her hotel bed.

Another woman by the name of Anya Lakovlieva, who goes by @/nolimitua online, shared how she smuggled extra items with her aboard the plane by using the same method.

In a post she uploaded on TikTok, she can be seen stuffing the pillowcase with a load of clothes and then placing it on top of her luggage. Anya then showed a clip of herself hugging her smuggled items inside the pillow during the flight.

It can be assumed that the cabin crew checking passengers on board didn’t think twice about the pillow, as it is often used by passengers as a sleeping aid.

One frequent traveller made waves online as well when she shared her simple but controversial trick for securing space for her carry-on luggage inside the plane’s overhead bin. You can read her tips here.

Disgusting, they are just stealing space from other passengers. Brickbats to them, the last time I flew, the hostess called out a bag in someones carry on space for 10 mins and had to threaten to put it off the plane before the owner, who was way down the back of the plane, came forward and admitted to ownership of it. With these days of terrorist activity, all carry on spaces should be allocated to the seat holders only.

Boy once again a younger person flouting the rules, all about me me me she cried as she bumped a few other fliers out of their space for their 1 piece of carry on. They really do think they are sooooooooooooooooooooo entitled. I for one am pretty sick of this generation and their blatant disregard for everyone else

5 kg might be nothing, but if everyone did it could be dangerous. Weights and estimates are taken into consideration before flights.

Another thing is that weight could prove distasted, as pilots have to account for correct weight for fuel. "Airplanes have quite a few different weight limitations that pilots cannot exceed. To accurately calculate an aircraft’s weight, the pilot needs to know the weights of every single object and fluid inside the aircraft, including the empty aircraft itself. "

Speaking of weights, I wonder why airlines don't have a row of larger seats for larger people with excess weight. They could be charged from 100 kg upward with every extra kilo adding 1% to their fare.
I agree with you on the issue of body weight. In the first place everyone of us should be weighed prior to being issued a boarding pass. The extra weight is adding to the allowable weight for the plane to take off, never mind the extra space occupied by these people which so often overflows into another person’s seat. Airlines should be looking into a few larger seats on all planes and allocating them to people of larger stature and weight. It is very uncomfortable, especially on longer flights, to sit next to a person overflowing their seat and those using both armrests for their comfort, especially if you are unfortunate enough to get the middle seat with one of them on each side of you!

Boy once again a younger person flaunting the rules, all about me me me she cried as she bumped a few other fliers out of their space for their 1 piece of carry on. I recall a few years ago standing in line waiting to board an airplane from Melbourne to Brisbane. This was in the days before scanning etc. The guy in front of me was wearing an army great coat and carrying a canvas bag which he kept swapping from one hand to the other. On the plane he couldn’t lift the bag to put it in the overhead locker . He took the coat off and placed it in the locker, the bag he put at his feet. I was seated beside him by the window and when I asked him what he was carrying, he opened the bag and showed me a motorcycle engine! The great coat had most of the other parts in the pockets…..

I admit that there have been occasions when I took more than one bag onto a plane.

The first occasion was way, way back in 1981 on a return trip from Europe. I had an additional item which I stored under the seat. No problem! I didn't "steal" space from another passenger!

The second occasion was another return trip from Europe, that was in 2008. I had some items that I wanted to send back to Australia but postage was horrendously expensive. So I purchased a small to mediumsized on-board bag at Frankfurt airport and placed those items plus a couple other things that I removed from my checked in luggage. Again, I didn't take any space away from another passenger.

I hope I'll never be on a plane with you!

You can rest assured that they do allow a margin of error to account for all of us overweight people!

I’m not commenting on people of large stature because there are many reasons for their size and weight - it is not about eating excessively, greed etc - but is often about genetics and hereditary factors that are unavoidable. My reference was about providing some larger seats for people of a big stature and weighing ALL passengers (as well as ALL baggage) will give a more accurate weight for pilots to balance plane, passengers and fuel intake so we can ALL fly safely.

I never really understood this before I took my first flight and read up on it online. Really a good example of small things adding up, eh?

Wow  I love how it sounds like he nonchalantly opened his bag to show the engine!

What habit, disability or vice do you have so we can tax or charge extra for??
