Transistor TV

Remember when a 12-inch screen felt like the height of modern technology? The arrival of transistor TVs in the ’60s was a game-changer—portable, reliable, and small enough to take on holidays in the caravan or boat. Families would huddle around the little screen, adjusting the rabbit ears for the best reception, feeling lucky to have television anywhere at all. Did your family ever own one of these compact beauties? Tell us all about it in the forum.

I had a transistor TV and found it very useful. I could take it anywhere and it had a very clear picture which meant it was a joy to watch.

Mum and Dad bought a six inch screen TV in Hong Kong in 1966, and it lasted until sometime in the 1980s. It was a great little TV that Mum had in the kitchen so she could watch the news, etc while she was getting dinner.
