Talking about fried camppie reminds me, when I was pregnant with last daughter,vi had an appointment at the hospital so left the kids at home withe their father while I walked up there (30 minutes walk each way) . When I got home I asked him if he had had something to eat and fed the kids. Yes, he said, I fried us up some Strasbourg, what Strasbourg I asked, the roll in the fridge, scraping my head I went to the fridge to look, not knowing if he had bought it, returned to him and said, no Strasbourg in the fridge, that was the dog sausage. Killed myself laughing thinking, how could you be so stupid and not look before you eat 😂
🤣🤣🤣🤣too funny

powdered potatoes saved a huge amount of weight in a caravan. So did dried peas and beans. They didn't "go off" like "fresh" vegetables could either. There hasn't always been 2 or 3 way fridges in caravans. That is a reason why some people use powdered milk when camping or caravaning
OMG camp pie and spam were the most horrendous things ever and powdered potatoes when we were caravanning.

correct, everything was pretty much powdered or freeze dried for weight and space reasons.

I remember all the Tom Piper products and they were good. They took over the Braised Steak and Onions brand from Kraft but not the recipe. Today it's full of liver instead of steak and chunks of animal fat.

Well that’s put me off it. But I do love it dipped in batter and fried .

Tom Piper was around in the 1950s or earlier. I think Kraft only did cheese then. There was also Harvest Braised Steak & Onions (it had vegetables in it too). + one that had sausages and vegetables.

People used powdered potato when caravanning and camping because 1 it was more convenient and 2 because of the difference in weight,
Never seen powdered potato but I love mashed potatoes but powdered would turn my stomach. I don't like dried beans but I do love dried peas, they are tastier than the fresh peas if you can buy them now. I've seen sugar peas but I would have to eat them in their shell as you couldn't get a feed for one if you shelled them. Surprise dried peas are really nice but I have the Coles dried peas and I like them. Can't stand the frozen peas either. Fussy person I am😂

You add hot /warm milk to the powdered potato. I dreaded the idea until I tasted it.

Harvest also had the sausages and veggies. Quite like that too, think you are talking about the Deb mashed potatoes. Yes wasn't too bad. Can't remember any other dried potatoes.
