Today show bombshell by Karl Stefanovic left co-host Allison Langdon speechless
- Replies 5
We've all had those moments where we say something before thinking it through properly – and unfortunately for Karl Stefanovic, one of those moments was caught on live television.
The Today show host made a hilarious but cringe-worthy faux pas during Thursday's show when he joked that co-host Allison Langdon was pregnant.
As roving weather presenter Tim Davies spoke to Andy Moore from the mental health organisation Hello Sunday Morning about its 'Pizzas for Peace of Mind' initiative, he surprised Karl and Ally back in the Channel Nine studios with two customised pizzas bearing their initials made from toppings.
'I told you there was something in the oven with your name on it,' Tim said. 'You should have some pizzas there on the desk with you.'
Taking his cue, Karl suddenly joked and announced: 'Ally's preggers! Yay!' to which she responded: 'What?! Don't say that to a girl.'
After some quick explaining from Tim, Ally realised he was just referring to the pizzas being cooked in the oven – not an actual human pregnancy… But her relief didn't stop Karl from adding: 'I don't think you've ever been more attractive,' as she started eating a slice without much grace or finesse.
Thankfully, what could have been an incredibly awkward moment (for both parties) ended up being nothing more than good-natured fun between colleagues – although we're sure poor Ally will be getting teased about it for weeks to come!
This little on-air gaffe comes shortly after another controversial topic discussed by the Today hosts reignited debate among Australians – namely, whether parents should be allowed to smack their children or not.
The argument for and against corporal punishment has divided the hosts, who revealed their own family views on smacking during a recent episode.
Ally said that while her dad's threats were enough to straighten her act up most of the time, it was her mum who did most of the physical smacking when she was younger.
And apparently, there was even an incident where she broke the wooden spoon on Ally's brother once - much to everyone's amusement! Karl and Alex recalled similar situations happening in their homes growing up too.
Later in the discussion, the hosts brought up how various families have different notions of what is considered a 'smack', which is why passing legislation to address it would be challenging.
Ally added that if a child did something harmful or out-of-line, the threat of a smack or a small tap on the hand was enough. She agreed, though, that parents should look for other ways to punish their kids.

So what do you think of this story, folks? Do you think this is just another one of Karl's typical shenanigans on the show, or do you think announcing a woman she's pregnant might be offensive on her end? If so, please share your thoughts below.
