Tired of mushy bananas? Baker reveals a 'genius' mush-free method for peeling them

Banana peeling is one of those things that most of us do without thinking. We just grab a banana, give it a quick peel, and move on with our day. But did you know that our typical banana peeling method can damage the fruit?
When you peel a banana from the stem, you tear off a small piece of the fruit along with the peel. This can make the banana more susceptible to bruising and can also affect its flavour.
But, is there a better way to do this seemingly no-brainer task?
Well, the surprising part is there's a simple and more effective way of peeling bananas!
Tigga Maccormack, an Australian baker, has taken to TikTok to share her 'revolutionary' discovery about the correct way to peel a banana. And it's blowing people's minds. Well, not quite but we’re impressed!
In the video, the baker pointed out that most people peel their bananas from the stem end.
'Most people peel a banana from this end,' she says, showing the ‘top’ end of the fruit.
However, according to Maccormack, you should start from the bottom.
She adds: 'But it's actually better to peel it from this end.'
The baker also noted that the peel comes away much more easily this way.
Maccormack explains: 'You know how it doesn't break properly at the pointy end? Well if you peel from the other end you literally just start it from the black root and it breaks away so much easier.'
'So everyone, peel your bananas from the bottom!'
The tip has received mixed reactions from users, with some saying that they were sceptical about the claims of the baker.
One person wrote: 'Nah, the stem part is easier, it's never broken for me unless the banana is like rotten.'

Others defended Maccormack, however, with some claiming that they've been following the tip since they learned of it years ago.
One user said: 'I squeeze the bottom and it pops right open and peels easily.'
'Monkeys actually open their bananas from "the bottom" too! I've been doing this since I was little when I read/heard about it in school!' another explained.
We all have our little routines and habits that we go through each day without giving them much thought. Some of these habits may be so ingrained that we don't even realise we're doing them.
But just because something is simple or routine doesn't mean we can't benefit from taking a closer look at it from time to time.
The 'banana peeling' tip is just one of those surprising habits that we don't realise that we're doing wrong. Previously, we shared how one Italian grandma revealed how to properly open a packet of spaghetti.
Keeping this in mind, there might be some things we're doing that aren't as effective as they could be, or we may be missing out on some benefits by not doing them the right way.
Plus, we think it keeps our brains a little more active when we try to remember all these little tips and tricks instead of operating on auto-pilot.
Are you surprised by this simple tip? Better yet, do you know other simple habits that we probably are doing wrong? Share them with us in the comments below!
