Tip Top van

Remember the Tip Top van pulling up to your house with that unmistakable aroma of freshly baked bread? That daily visit was like a comforting ritual, with the baker meticulously tucking loaves into a wicker basket, then placing them in the bread crock your mum left on the front veranda. Those were the days when bread was a mere 5c a loaf. Kids used to rush to the window each morning just to catch a glimpse of that van. Do you have fond memories of the Tip Top van? Tell us here.

Connie used to deliver our buttercup bread and rolls each morning early. We would have lovely fresh bread rolls to take to school for lunch. In the holidays we would have our bread rolls when they arrived still warm, I can still smell them. On Fridays we would also get two loaves wrapped in a foil loaf that went in the oven so we would have fresh bread for the weekend. The bread is just not the same any more. Oh for the good old simpler days!

My goodness, MEMORIES. I must be getting old, I remember the dear old horse that used to pull the Tip Top Bread Van around the district every day. I also remember the mums running out to pick up the big droppings, with the dustpan, very useful for the garden.
