Three scam warnings (phone and email)
Member Margaret J. has kindly shared a warning about some scams she came across recently.
- ' I received two emails from "my bank" to say my statements were ready to download. Normally I only get them twice a year and not mid-year so SCAM, I say.
- I had someone on the phone yesterday saying they were a charity doing a survey. Well, I don’t mind doing surveys, so I let her carry on. She asked me to confirm I was in Australia and all I muttered was "mmmm" then she asked if it was Western Australia and again I "muttered". The next question I hung up before she actually got into the question. SCAM, I say.
- I also had a reminder about something but cannot remember what it was now but the email came to me twice in my above email address and twice in another email address that I have BUT the company that supposedly sent the emails do not have my other address so again I say SCAM.
'It seems to be a never-ending thing that is happening no matter how hard we try to watch out for these scams, there are still going to be people caught out.'
'As for my bank, I decided to go personally to see if they had sent any emails and they just said it is a scam and to delete them, I already had. I had even tried phoning them no answer "leave a message and we will get back to you in the next working day". It was a weekday I was ringing them on.
'I am well over 80 years old, but fortunately, I am aware of all these scams, but it is not to say that one day I may not be so alert.'
A huge thank you to member Margaret J. for bringing these to our attention!
